Sr. Configuration Management Specialist

Position Overview 

Join our growing aerospace and defense organization as a Senior Configuration Management Specialist (Level III). This role independently executes and coordinates configuration management across assigned programs, products, and lifecycle phases. The specialist partners with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Software, Systems Engineering, and Program Management to maintain configuration integrity from concept and development through production, delivery, and sustainment. 

The Level III specialist serves as a trusted program CM practitioner and may lead defined workstreams, facilitate change-control activities, and mentor less-experienced team members. This is an individual-contributor position aligned to enterprise CM governance and direction from the Senior Configuration Manager. 

This is one onsite position with location flexibility. The selected candidate may be based at the Dallas-Fort Worth, Fort Walton Beach, or San Luis Obispo site and should identify their preferred location when applying. 

What You Will Do 

• Own day-to-day configuration management execution for assigned programs, products, and projects while ensuring alignment with enterprise policies, program plans, contracts, and applicable industry requirements. 

• Develop and maintain program configuration management plans, procedures, work instructions, checklists, and lifecycle records under enterprise CM governance. 

• Establish, document, and maintain configuration identification and product structures for hardware, software, firmware, documentation, interfaces, and technical data. 

• Coordinate functional, allocated, product, production, as-built, as-tested, and as-maintained baseline activities as required by the program lifecycle and contract. 

• Support and facilitate Configuration Control Boards (CCBs) and Software Configuration Control Boards (SCCBs), including agenda preparation, change-package readiness, stakeholder coordination, decision records, and action tracking. 

• Review engineering change requests, engineering change orders, deviations, waivers, problem reports, and related change documentation for completeness, traceability, classification, effectivity, and implementation planning. 

• Maintain configuration status accounting for approved changes, baselines, releases, effectivity, serial applicability, open actions, implementation status, and technical data deliveries. 

• Verify that approved changes are fully implemented across affected drawings, specifications, bills of material, work instructions, software repositories, test artifacts, planning records, and downstream business systems. 

• Help maintain alignment among requirements, design data, EBOMs, MBOMs, SBOMs, ERP/MRP, MES, QMS, PDM/PLM, and software-development repositories to strengthen the digital thread. 

• Perform release-readiness and baseline-completeness reviews before production, test, delivery, or major technical milestones. 

• Support functional and physical configuration audits, production readiness reviews, first article activities, customer reviews, and internal or external compliance assessments. 

• Identify and resolve configuration discrepancies involving engineering data, manufacturing planning, software versions, effectivity, serialized product records, and as-built documentation. 

• Coordinate configuration records and technical data packages required for customer delivery, contractual reporting, audit readiness, and product acceptance. 

• Contribute configuration management scope, assumptions, schedules, risks, deliverables, and basis-of-estimate inputs to proposals and program planning activities. 

• Develop program-level metrics and concise status reports covering change throughput, aging actions, baseline health, release readiness, implementation completion, and emerging CM risks. 

• Provide practical CM guidance and training to cross-functional stakeholders and mentor junior CM personnel in established processes and tools. 

• Collaborate across operating sites to promote consistent execution while addressing local program and production needs. 

Required Qualifications 

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, systems engineering, information management, business, or a related discipline, with at least five years of relevant configuration management experience; an equivalent combination of education and directly applicable experience may be considered. 

• Hands-on experience performing configuration identification, change control, status accounting, baseline management, release management, implementation verification, and configuration audits. 

• Experience supporting complex hardware, software, firmware, or integrated product development in aerospace, defense, manufacturing, or another highly regulated environment. 

• Working knowledge of engineering drawings, specifications, bills of material, part and document revision control, effectivity, serialization, and product lifecycle records. 

• Ability to evaluate change packages for cross-functional impact and trace changes through engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, test, software, and delivery records.
