What We Need

We are seeking a Director of Systems Engineering to lead our Development Tools team. Reporting directly to the Senior Director, Infrastructure, this role will lead the team behind systems critical to game development, such as source control (Perforce), build systems (Unreal Horde, TeamCity, Jenkins), and related developer infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership abilities, technical depth in developer tooling, and excellent interpersonal skills to effectively drive productivity and efficiency across our studios. This position requires collaboration with various technical and development teams to ensure that tooling needs are met and challenges are proactively addressed. The Director will also focus on improving standardization, automation, and observability practices to improve overall developer workflow and reliability.

What You Will Do

  • Lead, mentor, and grow the Development Tools team, ensuring robust management and optimization of systems like Perforce, build automation tools, and related infrastructure.
  • Partner with finance, studio development, and enterprise infrastructure teams to align developer requirements with budget forecasting practices.
  • Drive a customer-centric culture, prioritizing excellent service delivery and responsiveness to developer needs and challenges.
  • Establish comprehensive observability practices, including monitoring, alerting, logging, and metrics, tailored specifically for development environments and tooling.
  • Establish clear Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) to measure team performance, impact, and service quality.
  • Foster collaboration with studio leadership, engineering teams, and business partners to proactively address challenges and improve workflows.
  • Provide strategic oversight of systems and tools, ensuring scalability, reliability, and effectiveness to support evolving development needs.
  • Develop and implement standards and processes to improve productivity, maintain operational consistency, and enhance service reliability.

Who We Think Will Be a Great Fit

  • Validated experience leading and developing high-performing teams within technology or engineering organizations, ideally in gaming or similar fast-paced environments.
  • Demonstrated success handling budgets and financial planning for distributed systems and infrastructure.
  • Strong background of fostering a culture focused on customer service, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with experience engaging partners at various organizational levels.
  • Strategic problem solver with the ability to align technical teams with broader business objectives, enhancing team effectiveness and value.
  • Proficiency in systems architecture, software engineering fundamentals, and automation practices, especially in the context of building and maintaining scalable, distributed tooling systems.

The pay range for this position in California at the start of employment is expected to be between $183,800 and $272,000 per Year. However, base pay offered is based on market location, and may vary further depending on individualized factors for job candidates, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an 'at-will position' and the company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
