What We Need:

Firaxis Games is seeking a talented Hard Surface Artist with a stunning portfolio that demonstrates expertise in hard surface modeling but also with a proficiency in organic forms.  We expect applicants to have experience with current industry modeling and texturing techniques, with the ideal candidate understanding the unique challenges of creating content for strategy games.  This Hard Surface Artist role will work within various areas of our games including vehicles, weapons and environment. 

 

What You Will Do:

  • Work with the Art Leads, Designers & all involved disciplines to create production quality assets matching the art style of the game from concepts or photo reference.

·        Support in solving technical challenges related to modeling, texturing, and optimization.

  • Communicate with Tech Art to ensure assets are made efficiently and properly for engine integration 

  • Collaborate with Outsourcing when necessary to ensure delivery and consistency of art.  

  • Complete all tasks in a timely manner and to a consistent high-quality standard.

 

·        Stay up to date with industry trends and tools to continuously improve techniques and workflows.

  • Help to demonstrate and maintain the Firaxis culture.

 

Who We Think Will Be a Good Fit:

  • Experience in a Hard Surface or similar role with a minimum of 6 years in the game industry working on AAA titles - preferably with at least three shipped title.

  • Understanding of kit-bashing and modularity.

  • Extensive experience modeling in 3DSMax, Maya or comparable software and experience using Zbrush. 

  • Have a good sense of scale, proportion & distribution of detail for strategy games.

  • Strong UV unwrapping and mapping skills.

  • A good understanding of mechanical engineering, functionality, and design.

  • Experience and feel comfortable working on more organic forms & assets.

  • Experience using Photoshop and Substance Painter and creating Smart Materials for shared usage. 

  • A good knowledge and understanding of modern game art pipelines and methodologies.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate across multiple locations and time zones in a clear and efficient manner.

  • A good team player with a positive attitude and a high degree of self-motivation and initiative.

  • Good time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks & communicate clearly & constructively with Production.

 

Nice to Have:

  • Working with limited-detail models either in games or physically, such as miniatures.

  • Paintover experience for quick representation of feedback.

  • Understanding of how rigging works in Maya.

  • Experience with tracking & scheduling software and asset management software.
