Manager, Government Affairs and Weather Enterprise Partnerships
AccuWeather is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and relationship-oriented professional to serve as Manager, Government Affairs and Weather Enterprise Partnerships. This is a uniquely impactful role that sits at the intersection of public policy, industry leadership, and AccuWeather’s significant impact in the Weather Enterprise, providing the successful candidate with the opportunity to shape how AccuWeather’s voice, value, and vision are represented across the halls of Congress, key federal agencies, the nation’s premier scientific societies, and the broader Weather Enterprise.
Position Overview
As Manager, Government Affairs and Weather Enterprise Partnerships, you will serve as AccuWeather’s primary liaison to Congress, working to advance AccuWeather’s policy positions and ensure that legislative developments affecting the weather industry reflect AccuWeather’s perspective and expertise. You will monitor the legislative and regulatory landscape, identify emerging legislation relevant to the weather enterprise, and proactively build relationships that allow AccuWeather to provide timely, informed input to the policy process. You will also engage with relevant federal agencies including by not limited to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the National Weather Service (NWS), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to ensure AccuWeather’s capabilities are understood and valued across the federal landscape and to drive partnership opportunities.
At the same time, you will be AccuWeather’s primary representative to the American Meteorological Society (AMS), working to integrate AccuWeather’s subject matter expertise into AMS publications, committees, and major conference programming. You will champion AccuWeather’s presence and thought leadership across the full range of AMS activities.
Additionally, this position will collaborate with other weather companies as appropriate and in ways to ultimately benefit AccuWeather. This position will also lead AccuWeather’s engagement with all relevant weather industry trade associations, serving as the primary point of contact and advancing collaborative relationships that raise AccuWeather’s profile and influence across the Global Weather Enterprise. These may include organizations such as the National Weather Association (NWA), the American Weather and Climate Industry Association (AWCIA) and PRIMET in Europe.
This individual must be a skilled communicator, strategic thinker, and effective advocate who can represent AccuWeather at the highest levels with confidence, credibility, and professionalism. A passion for weather, public service, and collaborative relationship building is essential to success in this role.
Primary Job Responsibilities
Government Affairs, Congressional Relations & Federal Engagement
- Serve as AccuWeather’s primary representative to U.S. Congressional members, committees, and professional staff in both the House and Senate, with a focus on committees with jurisdiction over weather, commerce, science, and emergency management
- Develop and execute AccuWeather’s Congressional outreach strategy in coordination with senior leadership
- Proactively monitor the legislative and regulatory landscape to identify emerging bills, hearings, and policy developments relevant to AccuWeather and the broader weather enterprise
- Build and maintain strong, ongoing relationships with Congressional staffers and Members of Congress to ensure AccuWeather has early visibility into potential legislation and rulemaking
- Strongly advocate for AccuWeather’s policy positions and work to have AccuWeather’s perspectives incorporated into relevant legislation, regulatory proceedings, and Congressional testimony
- Coordinate preparation of testimony, briefing materials, policy position papers, and formal comments for submission to Congressional committees and federal agencies
- Partner with AccuWeather senior and executive leadership and legal teams to develop and articulate clear, compelling policy positions on issues affecting the private weather sector
- Represent AccuWeather at Congressional hearings, briefings, and Washington D.C. stakeholder events as appropriate
- Develop and maintain a legislative tracking and reporting system to keep AccuWeather leadership proactively informed of relevant developments on Capitol Hill and across the federal government
American Meteorological Society (AMS) Engagement
- Serve as AccuWeather’s primary relationship manager with the American Meteorological Society, cultivating partnerships at the staff, committee, and leadership levels
- Work to embed AccuWeather subject matter experts and viewpoints into AMS peer-reviewed publications, technical reports, and policy statements
- Engage with AMS committees relevant to AccuWeather’s business and scientific interests, including those focused on the public/private partnership, applied meteorology, and weather, water and climate policy
- Elevate AccuWeather’s visibility and reputation within AMS through sustained engagement and thought leadership
- Support AccuWeather’s participation in AMS certification, education, and workforce development initiatives
- Monitor AMS scientific and policy outputs and brief AccuWeather leadership on relevant developments
Weather Enterprise Trade Association Leadership
- Serve as AccuWeather’s primary point of engagement with all relevant weather industry trade associations and enterprise organizations
- Develop and sustain active membership and leadership-level participation in key organizations including but not limited to the National Weather Association (NWA), American Weather and Climate Industry Association (AWCIA) and international bodies such as the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), PRIMET, HMEI, and other private sector engagement frameworks
- Represent AccuWeather at trade association meetings, working groups, and annual conferences, ensuring AccuWeather’s voice is heard in industry-wide discussions
- Collaborate with AccuWeather leadership to shape and advance industry consensus positions that reflect AccuWeather’s values and interests
- Identify sponsorship, co-branding, and thought leadership opportunities within trade association events and publications
- In partnership with other AccuWeather leaders, advance the science, impact and business of meteorology and be an outspoken advocate for the Weather Enterprise as we see it, in order to enshrine our vision of how the Enterprise should evolve.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Awareness Building
- Collaborate with AccuWeather’s communications, marketing, and corporate leadership teams to ensure consistency of messaging across government, scientific, and industry audiences
- Develop materials, briefing documents, and presentations that clearly convey AccuWeather’s value, impact, and mission to external audiences
- Raise awareness of AccuWeather’s life-saving role, economic contributions, and technological leadership across all stakeholder communities
- Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, competitive positioning, and AccuWeather’s full suite of products and services
- Ability to travel up to 30% to Washington D.C., AMS conferences, trade association meetings, and other key events, including the potential for some international Weather Enterprise events.

Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in political science, public policy, communications, or a related field; Meteorology knowledge or background is a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in government affairs, public policy, legislative advocacy, or related field
- Demonstrated knowledge of and passion for the weather industry, meteorological sciences, and the public/private weather enterprise
- Willingness and ultimately proven ability to strongly and confidently advocate for AccuWeather positions even in contested or challenging situations
- Existing relationships with Congressional staff, Members of Congress, or relevant federal agencies is highly preferred
- Experience working with or within professional scientific societies such as the American Meteorological Society (AMS) or National Weather Association (NWA) strongly preferred
- Proven track record of building and maintaining high-value stakeholder and partnership relationships
- Exceptional written and verbal communication, presentation, and advocacy skills; ability to translate complex meteorological and scientific concepts for policy and non-technical audiences
- Experience developing and executing advocacy strategies, policy platforms, or legislative campaigns
- Comfort operating at the intersection of science, business, and government with a high degree of professionalism and discretion
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities and stakeholder relationships
- Collaborative team player with the ability to work cross-functionally across all levels of the organization
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly to Washington D.C. and to major industry conferences
- Deep understanding of AccuWeather’s mission, products, and position within the global weather enterprise is a strong advantage
