Senior Executive Producer, Podcast
ABOUT THE JOB
The ACLU seeks applicants for the full-time position of Senior Executive Producer, Podcast in the Communications & Marketing Department of the ACLU’s National office in New York, NY. This is a hybrid role that has in-office requirements of two (2) days per week or eight (8) days per month.
The ACLU Marketing & Communications Department creates, maintains, and expands message narratives to engage our supporters and other target audiences, to help protect and expand civil liberties and civil rights, and also illustrate the value and impact of the ACLU’s work. Through our messaging, engagement with newsmakers, our written and social content, branding, and visual identity, we encourage support for the ACLU and help to create a more perfect union.
This position is part of a collective bargaining unit. It is represented by ACLU Staff United (ASU).
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Reporting to the Director of Creative Services, the Senior Executive Producer will play a critical role in strategizing, writing, producing, and overseeing the generation of content for the ACLU’s podcast, At Liberty. The Senior Executive Producer will maintain alignment with overall audience engagement strategies and issue-based communications strategies that advance the ACLU’s work on civil liberties and civil rights.
YOUR DAY TO DAY
- Establish, manage and maintain the highest editorial standards across the ACLU in the creation and production of the At Liberty podcast
- Produce stories that weave into ACLU’s broader content and engagement strategy, leveraging podcast listeners into action takers
- Build, curate and optimize a stable of internal (including affiliate staff) and external contributors for the ACLU podcast that includes known, respected writers, attorneys, thought leaders, and partner organizations whose expertise and stature will grow our audience and reach
- Identify advertisers, partnerships, and work with the Paid Media team to drive new creative campaign opportunities to help the podcast reach new audiences
- Collaborate with the host, post-production vendors, and/or creative services interns to produce high-quality episodes, ensuring smooth communication and alignment
- Create and manage an approvals process in collaboration with the Marketing & Communications team and other departments across the organization
- Manages rapid-response podcast needs, engage in special projects and other duties as assigned by Director of Creative Services or Head of Brand
- Conduct a content audit and collaborate with Marketing & Communications leadership to develop strategies for optimizing the podcast to boost engagement
- Demonstrates a flexibility and willingness to experiment as we seek to identify the future of our podcast and other media offerings from ACLU’s Brand Studio

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- You are an exceptional writer, producer and researcher with strong digital media skills. You have the ability to manage multiple projects, adhere to strict deadlines and a relentless attention to journalistic standards of accuracy, ethics and our brand values
- You have a demonstrated mastery of audio and / or podcast production. You can help the team execute any part of the production & post production workflow, preferably with experience in rapid response message creation, information gathering and dissemination
- Strong technical background. Expertise in ProTools and/or other editing software
- You are as comfortable in conversation with thought leaders, attorneys and heads of organizations as you are with activists on the ground, knocking on doors. You believe we all have an important story to tell
- You are an excellent collaborator, able to move seamlessly between departments and priorities and can answer to multiple goals and objectives at the same time
- You are familiar with defining and tracking key metrics to show health and growth of a media audience
- You are hungry for a leadership opportunity and growth as an idea generator with a dynamic team. Your sense of collaboration and compromise are strong and you see the value in cross-department coordination
- You have an eye for detail, including managing a budget and major vendors in the media space, keeping track of expenditures and results in a way that is easily communicated to multiple stakeholders
- You are comfortable with public speaking and live events
