Atlassian Administrator

We are seeking a highly skilled Atlassian Administrator to design, configure, and administer our Jira environment. This role will be responsible for establishing and maintaining Jira as a core enterprise tool, including setup, customization, integrations, and ongoing governance. The ideal candidate will bring both technical expertise and strategic insight to ensure Atlassian tools support business processes effectively and securely.

Essential Functions

  • Design and implement Jira architecture (Data Center, Cloud, or Server), including user management, project structures, permission schemes, security, and performance optimization.
  • Establish governance standards for Jira projects, workflows, and issue types.
  • Serve as the primary Jira system administrator, managing day-to-day operations, updates, backups, and troubleshooting.
  • Monitor system performance and proactively address scalability and stability needs.
  • Provide end-user support and training.
  • Design, build, and maintain custom workflows, fields, screens, schemes, dashboards, and reports.
  • Develop and maintain custom automation, scripting (e.g., Jira Automation, ScriptRunner, Groovy), and integrations with other tools (e.g., GitLab, Microsoft Teams, Power BI).
  • Evaluate and manage Atlassian Marketplace apps to extend Atlassian tool capabilities.
  • Integrate Jira with enterprise systems (e.g., SharePoint, Microsoft 365, CI/CD pipelines, financial/ERP tools).
  • Partner with business stakeholders to translate requirements into effective Jira solutions.
  • Champion best practices for Agile, Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, and project portfolio management within Jira.
  • Maintain the accuracy, consistency, and organization of Jira content, including workflows, custom fields, schemes, dashboards, and reports.
  • Regularly audit and clean up unused or duplicate configurations, projects, and fields to ensure Jira remains efficient and user-friendly.
  • Implement naming conventions, documentation standards, and usage guidelines for sustainable system management.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements (e.g., CMMC, FedRAMP, ISO).
  • Establish data governance, retention, and access control policies.
  • Maintain audit readiness for tool usage and configurations.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Security Clearance- Ability to obtain/maintain a Top Secret DoD clearance, U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Proficiency with Jira Software (Cloud or Data Center) administration and configuration.
  • Solid understanding of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe) and how they are implemented in Jira.
  • Familiarity with database concepts, application servers, and system performance optimization.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and drive solutions across teams.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and ITSM processes.

Education / Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent experience.
  • Atlassian certifications (e.g., ACP-120: Jira Administration for Cloud, ACP-610: Managing Jira Projects for Data Center/Server, ACP-420: Jira System Administrator).

Experience

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience as a Jira Administrator, Architect, or Developer in a medium-to large enterprise environment.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing complex Jira workflows and enterprise level configurations.
  • Strong experience with ScriptRunner, Groovy scripting, Jira Automation, and REST APIs.
  • Experience integrating Jira with external tools (e.g., Confluence, Git/Bitbucket, Microsoft Teams, Power BI).
  • Experience supporting federal, defense, or regulated industry environments (e.g., CMMC, NIST 800-171).
  • Background in enterprise architecture or systems engineering.
