A Snapshot

As Senior Director, Capital Projects based in our HQ in either Sydney or Singapore, you will report to the Vice President, Legal and work closely with various teams and leadership across the Asia Pacific region, making your mark in a number of ways:

  • You will oversee a high performing team of lawyers partnering with senior stakeholders in our capex teams to innovate, problem-solve and deliver world class sustainable hyperscale data centres across APJ that meet the needs of our customers. This position demands a blend of legal expertise, industry knowledge, and strategic insight.
  • You will provide expert legal advice and support on all capital projects within the business including real estate acquisitions, construction, procurement, and energy related initiatives, managing inter-related legal risks, ensuring compliance, and supporting project delivery from inception to completion.

Your Day to Day 

  • Strategic thought leadership: Contribute to the development of project strategies by providing legal insights that influence decision-making and project direction. 
  • Commercial legal advice and strategy: provide clear, commercial and sound legal advice to non-legal staff on capital projects covering real estate acquisition and disposals, planning considerations, construction, infrastructure development, energy and renewables.
  • Effective contract negotiation and management: Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of capex contracts to ensure that all contractual arrangements align with legal standards and project objectives.​
  • Stakeholder engagement: Work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, procurement and operations teams to ensure that legal considerations are integrated into project planning and execution.​
  • Regulatory compliance and best practice: Stay abreast of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards. Advise project teams on compliance requirements and implement strategies to mitigate legal risks.​
  • Risk management and dispute resolution: identify and address legal risks associated with capex projects, offering strategic legal advice to mitigate these risks and achieve business objectives. Manage and resolve legal disputes arising during the project lifecycle, utilising negotiation, mediation, or litigation as appropriate.​
  • Governance: identifying and implementing processes and procedures to streamline delivery of legal advice and negotiation of contracts while minimising risk on complex capex projects from end to end.

Requirements

  • A law degree and eligibility to hold a practising certificate in the relevant jurisdiction.
  • Extensive experience 8+ years PQE ideally from real estate, construction or infrastructure, with a strong focus on capital projects and data centre developments.​
  • In-depth knowledge of real estate transactions, construction contracts, energy and/or other utility contracts, renewables and regulatory frameworks governing the industry.​
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities, with the capacity to convey complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders effectively.​
  • Proven leadership skills with experience in mentoring lawyers and leading legal teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to anticipate legal issues and proactively develop solutions.​
  • A solid understanding of business operations and the ability to align legal strategies with organisational goals.
