Registered Dietitian (RD)
Akido is rebuilding the healthcare experience from the ground up. Through early interventions designed around social determinants of health (SDoH), world-class care focused on chronic disease, and human-centered technology, we believe we can build a healthcare model that allows for all patients to live their fullest lives. We are a fast-growing, impact-focused, Y Combinator company created out of the University of Southern California’s D-Health Lab with the idea that empowering government, healthcare, and nonprofit services with population-based data could help usher in a new era of preventive public health. Today we are building a full stack medical network that leverages our predictive capabilities to provide a frictionless experience for both our patients and care providers.
The Opportunity
In collaboration with the Independent Drivers Guild (IDG) and Workers Benefit Fund (WBF), we are launching an inaugural program this year in New York City, specifically for independent drivers, such as those affiliated with Uber and Lyft. We’re looking for a Registered Dietitian who is excited to deliver care—and to help build the care model itself. This is an opportunity to bring your clinical expertise and creativity into a collaborative, fast-paced, mission-driven environment. As a founding member of this team, you’ll work closely with patients and also play a direct role in shaping how nutrition services are designed, implemented, and scaled.
You’ll deliver culturally responsive nutrition counseling to underserved gig workers, many of whom face complex health challenges and structural barriers to care. Your role will integrate seamlessly with a multidisciplinary team that includes health coaches, social workers, and medical providers. Just as importantly, your voice will help shape care pathways, education tools, and workflows from the ground up—ensuring our services reflect the needs and realities of the communities we serve.
What You’ll Do
- Patient Care & Nutrition Counseling
- Conduct personalized nutrition assessments and create care plans aligned with medical needs, cultural context, and access to resources
- Deliver medical nutrition therapy (MNT) for chronic disease management, including diabetes, hypertension, and obesity
- Provide nutrition education and coaching through in-person mobile visits and virtual platforms
- Help patients build sustainable, affordable, and culturally relevant eating habits
- Advocate for patient needs within the care team and help connect them to food resources, benefits, and support systems
- Program Building & Innovation
- Collaborate with clinical and operations teams to co-design the nutrition care model, including workflows, patient education materials, and screening tools
- Pilot new approaches to nutrition delivery—both in mobile and virtual formats—and share real-time feedback to drive improvements
- Contribute to the development of group classes, culturally tailored resources, and scalable interventions
- Help shape how nutrition services are tracked, measured, and evaluated
- Team-Based Collaboration
- Work closely with medical providers, health coaches, social workers, and navigators to deliver coordinated, whole-person care
- Participate in daily huddles, case reviews, and cross-functional learning sessions
- Help refine shared documentation and communication workflows to ensure seamless care transitions
- Offer thought partnership to colleagues as we grow and iterate on the model
- Community Engagement & Outreach
- Travel throughout NYC’s five boroughs as part of our mobile care team
- Attend and support community events that promote nutrition literacy and access
- Serve as a clinical representative at outreach activations, answering questions and building trust with potential patients
- Stay attuned to emerging community needs and help adjust offerings accordingly
