Technical Product Manager

Tysons, Virginia

Technical Product Manager - Core Platform

Tysons, Virginia (Hybrid)

Alarm.com is seeking a technically strong Product Manager to own and evolve our core software platform. This platform underpins the development, deployment, and operation of products across the company, serving both internal engineering teams and external customers.

In this role, you will define the vision and roadmap for foundational platform capabilities, drive adoption of modern and AI-driven development practices, and partner closely with engineering teams to improve developer velocity, reliability, and scalability. The ideal candidate combines strong technical depth with product sensibility and has experience building or scaling internal platforms.

What You’ll Own

  • Platform strategy and roadmap. Define the direction for core platform services, tooling, and infrastructure that enable multiple product teams. Balance feature development, technical debt reduction, and foundational improvements that benefit both internal developers and end customers.

  • AI-driven development processes and tooling. Lead the evaluation, adoption, and integration of AI-powered tools and workflows across engineering teams. This includes AI coding assistants, intelligent code review, AI-assisted test generation, automated documentation, and other technologies that meaningfully improve developer productivity and software quality.

  • Developer experience and modern engineering practices. Own initiatives that improve how teams build, test, deploy, and operate software. This includes CI/CD pipelines, observability, infrastructure-as-code, testing frameworks, release processes, and the incorporation of AI to augment these systems.

  • Platform capabilities for internal and external use. Identify and prioritize platform features (APIs, SDKs, services, and tooling) that increase leverage across the organization while also supporting external integration and extensibility needs.

  • Technical decision-making and tradeoffs. Evaluate architectural options, technology choices, and build-vs-buy decisions, including the use of AI technologies. You will work closely with engineering to ensure solutions are pragmatic, scalable, and aligned with long-term platform goals.

  • Data-driven prioritization. Define and track key platform metrics (adoption, reliability, deployment frequency, lead time, cloud costs, etc.) and use data to guide roadmap decisions and demonstrate impact.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong technical background, ideally with prior experience as a software engineer, platform engineer, or SRE. You should be comfortable reading code, understanding system design, and evaluating technical tradeoffs.

  • Demonstrated experience building or managing platforms, frameworks, or shared services used by multiple engineering teams.

  • Deep familiarity with modern software development practices, including CI/CD, cloud-native architectures, microservices, containerization, observability, and automated testing.

  • Experience or strong interest in AI-driven software development. You understand how AI tools and agents are transforming engineering workflows and are excited to bring those capabilities into a platform context to improve productivity and quality at scale.

  • Ability to operate effectively at the intersection of product and engineering—translating business needs into technical requirements and explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Strong program management skills with a track record of delivering complex, cross-functional initiatives involving multiple engineering teams.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with internal developer platforms or platform engineering teams

  • Background in building platforms that serve both internal developers and external customers/partners

  • Hands-on experience implementing or scaling AI-powered developer tools (e.g., custom AI coding assistants, intelligent code review systems, AI-driven test generation, or AI-augmented platform features)

  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (Azure or AWS), Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code tools

  • Experience in IoT, security, or connected device environments

  • Prior experience as a software engineer on a platform or infrastructure team before moving into product

Please note that sponsorship of new applicants for employment authorization, or any other immigration-related support, is not available for this position at this time.
