Lab Systems Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lab Systems Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining our system infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, and supporting a scientific research environment. This role requires technical expertise, strong troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to operational excellence. The successful candidate will also possess the ability to adapt to unique challenges, including working within a research setting that involves animals.
Responsibilities;
- Manage and monitor system infrastructure, including hardware, software, networks, and system designs.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues to ensure system availability and reliability.
- Administer and maintain Linux-based systems, including performing system-level testing and debugging.
- Implement and support cloud computing solutions, with a focus on Azure and data storage blob integration.
- Build, modify, and adapt electrical circuitry and Raspberry Pi technologies for specific applications.
- Lead system maintenance activities, including updates, backups, and patches to improve operational efficiency.
- Plan and execute future system upgrades and infrastructure improvements.
- Document processes, workflows, and system configurations, and maintain accurate performance metrics.
- Provide after-hours support for emergencies or system failures as needed.
- Collaborate effectively with researchers, providing technical support and ensuring system solutions align with project goals.
Qualifications;
- 5+ years of relevant professional experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or similar field.
- Ability to work fully onsite in the Philadelphia area.
- Proven experience in managing and monitoring system infrastructure, including troubleshooting, analysis, and design.
- Proficiency in Linux systems, programming, and debugging tools.
- Hands-on experience with cloud computing, particularly within the Azure ecosystem.
- Technical expertise in electrical circuitry and Raspberry Pi technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to lead system maintenance and upgrades.
- Strong documentation and performance monitoring skills.
- Willingness to provide after-hours support in case of emergencies.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Comfortable working in a scientific research environment that involves animals.
