We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lab Systems Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining our system infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, and supporting a scientific research environment. This role requires technical expertise, strong troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to operational excellence. The successful candidate will also possess the ability to adapt to unique challenges, including working within a research setting that involves animals.

Responsibilities;

  • Manage and monitor system infrastructure, including hardware, software, networks, and system designs.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues to ensure system availability and reliability.
  • Administer and maintain Linux-based systems, including performing system-level testing and debugging.
  • Implement and support cloud computing solutions, with a focus on Azure and data storage blob integration.
  • Build, modify, and adapt electrical circuitry and Raspberry Pi technologies for specific applications.
  • Lead system maintenance activities, including updates, backups, and patches to improve operational efficiency.
  • Plan and execute future system upgrades and infrastructure improvements.
  • Document processes, workflows, and system configurations, and maintain accurate performance metrics.
  • Provide after-hours support for emergencies or system failures as needed.
  • Collaborate effectively with researchers, providing technical support and ensuring system solutions align with project goals.

 

Qualifications;

  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or similar field.
  • Ability to work fully onsite in the Philadelphia area.
  • Proven experience in managing and monitoring system infrastructure, including troubleshooting, analysis, and design.
  • Proficiency in Linux systems, programming, and debugging tools.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud computing, particularly within the Azure ecosystem.
  • Technical expertise in electrical circuitry and Raspberry Pi technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead system maintenance and upgrades.
  • Strong documentation and performance monitoring skills.
  • Willingness to provide after-hours support in case of emergencies.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Comfortable working in a scientific research environment that involves animals.

The actual salary offered is dependent on various factors including, but not limited to, location, the candidate’s combination of job-related knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience.
