
Technical Writer – Aerospace Design Processes

Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Technical Writer with a strong background in Aerospace Design Processes and deep familiarity with key industry standards including AWS, ASTM, AMS, and ASME Y14.5-2009. The ideal candidate will collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to develop, revise, and maintain technical documentation that supports Aerospace product development, fabrication, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain clear, accurate, and comprehensive technical documentation including:
- Design process manuals
- Manufacturing procedures
- Engineering specifications
- Technical reports and white papers
- Interpret and apply standards such as:
- AWS for welding procedures and qualifications
- ASTM for material testing and performance criteria
- AMS for aerospace-grade materials and specifications
- ASME Y14.5-2009 for geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
- Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather technical data and ensure documentation reflects current practices and regulatory requirements
- Ensure all documentation complies with Aerospace industry standards and internal quality protocols
- Create visual aids, diagrams, and schematics to enhance clarity and usability of technical content
- Maintain version control and document management systems to ensure traceability and accessibility
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship Required: This position requires access to export-controlled information under U.S. law. Only U.S. citizens are eligible in accordance with ITAR/EAR regulations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technical Communication, or a related field
- 3+ years of experience in technical writing within the aerospace or defense industry
- Proven experience working with:
- AWS D17.1/D1.1 welding codes
- ASTM International material and testing standards
- AMS specifications for aerospace materials
- ASME Y14.5-2009 for GD&T documentation
- Strong understanding of Aerospace design and manufacturing processes
- Proficiency in authoring tools (e.g., Adobe FrameMaker, MS Word, MadCap Flare)
- Familiarity with CAD tools and engineering drawings
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with PLM systems (e.g., Teamcenter, Windchill)
- Knowledge of FAA, EASA, or DoD documentation requirements
- Certification in Technical Communication or GD&T
