Job Description
- The vehicle dynamics performance quality engineer is responsible for dynamics performance quality testing activities throughout the vehicle development phases in order to demonstrate that the vehicle meets its functional objectives.
- The engineer will support the chassis (tires, brakes, wheels, suspension, steering) development process by performing in-vehicle objective measurements. The selected candidate will be responsible for all aspects of vehicle testing including the coordination and planning of testing, driving vehicle tests, test equipment maintenance /calibration, data processing and analysis, test report generation, population and maintenance of test results database, development of new test procedures, and creation of data analysis tools/templates.
- The engineer will interface with the global testing team and locally with the vehicle dynamics lead engineer, component design and release engineers, virtual analysis engineers and other functional sciences teams to set targets, develop countermeasures and test design proposals.
- Significant amounts of travel during winter months are required. Two to four weeks at a time to Arizona proving grounds (APG), northern Michigan or other domestic US locations. Up to 40% travel annually.
Basic Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor of Science Engineering Degree from an ABET accredited university or equivalent
- Experience in MATLAB; ability to modify, maintain, and write code
- Experience in automotive engineering product development
- Must have a valid driver's license with no physical restrictions
- Proactive and Reactive problem solving skills
- Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Proficient use of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc)
- Flexibility in local work sites between Chelsea Proving Grounds, Tech Center Auburn Hills
- Good teamwork skills and ability to work independently
Preferred Qualifications:
- Vehicle vibration data acquisition and data processing experience i.e. vehicle ride quality, wheel imbalance.
- MATLAB proficiency
- Experience in subjective evaluation of vehicle ride, handling, and steering characteristics
- Knowledge of tire and brake characteristics and performance
- Experience with data acquisition equipment, sensors, and calibration
- Ability to rate and document vehicle performance
- Background in automotive development including benchmarking, setting functional objectives, vehicle development, and production launch
- DFSS Green/ Black Belt
- Shainin Green/Black Belt
