ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Program Delivery Intern, you will work closely with the Program team on the program operations, Community experience, Learner support and Communications to deliver an exceptional learner experience. You will lead engagement efforts across community platforms and email channels, design interactive events, analyse learner behaviour, and proactively identify opportunities for improvement.

This role goes beyond support; it’s about designing meaningful learner experiences, using data to inform engagement strategies, and shaping how learners connect, grow, and succeed.

You’ll thrive here if you are a strong communicator, problem-solver, and team player who enjoys working in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

EMPLOYMENT TYPE

This is a 6-month, full-time internship.

As this is a fully remote role, the successful applicant must be highly self-motivated, organised, and comfortable working in a digital-first environment. You will report directly to your program manager and collaborate with cross-functional teams using tools such as Zoom, Slack, email, and Circle/E-hub.

Communication is key; success in this role depends on your ability to stay connected, proactively share updates, and engage meaningfully with both teammates and learners. You’ll be encouraged to continuously grow your skills and pursue certifications that support your professional development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Communications & Engagement

  • Collaborate with the team to create and deliver weekly communications, including emails, announcements, and nudges that inform, motivate, and retain learners.
  • Post scheduled portal updates in assigned community spaces to ensure learners are consistently informed about program requirements.
  • Support the development of newsletters and storytelling initiatives that celebrate milestones and learner success.
  • Track and analyse communication data (open rates, click-through rates, engagement trends) to improve effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent learner messaging across platforms.

Event design & management:

  • Support the planning and delivery of virtual events such as onboarding and graduation sessions, weekly office hours / live support sessions, and community events such as Masterclasses, Fireside Chats, or workshops.
  • Co-create event content and employ facilitation strategies to promote learner engagement, belonging, motivation, and program success.
  • Enforce event feedback loops and reports to assess attendance, engagement, and satisfaction metrics.
  • Experiment with new event formats and digital engagement strategies to strengthen community connection.

Community Engagement & Moderation:

  • Foster a sense of community and connection within the community, in line with the ALX’s peer-driven community model.
  • Manage and moderate community spaces, ensuring learners are onboarded smoothly and know how to navigate key platforms.
  • Foster peer-to-peer engagement through creative prompts, challenges, and discussions.
  • Ensure all community interactions align with the code of conduct, monitoring conversations to maintain a positive, supportive environment.
  • Flag issues raised by learners and provide troubleshooting assistance, escalating more complex issues to relevant team members or stakeholders for resolution.
  • Identify emerging learner needs, sentiment trends, and share actionable insights with the program team.

Learner Support & Enablement:

  • Anticipate and address learner issues related to access, onboarding, and platform navigation.
  • Create and maintain knowledge resources (FAQs, guides, walkthroughs) that enable self-service support.
  • Respond to program and curriculum-related questions in the community spaces, ensuring learners’ concerns are addressed promptly.
  • Escalate persistent or unresolved issues to the program team for further support and resolution.
  • Use data insights to identify bottlenecks and recommend long-term solutions for improved learner experience.

Learner Retention:

  • Proactively identify learners who may be at risk of disengagement or dropping out and initiate timely interventions to re-engage them.
  • Develop creative strategies to encourage continuous learner participation, providing motivational support and addressing potential barriers to success.
  • Work closely with the program team to design & implement retention-focused initiatives, such as personalised check-ins or peer mentorship programs, aimed at improving overall program completion rates.

Program Monitoring & Evaluation and Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Partner with Program and Data teams to analyse engagement metrics and generate actionable insights.
  • Assist in gathering learner and stakeholder feedback through surveys, interviews, and observational data to inform ongoing program design and delivery improvements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to implement innovative strategies that improve learner experiences and program outcomes.
  • Contribute to periodic reports summarising engagement highlights, learner impact, and success stories.

Program Operations Support:

  • Support the core program team with operational tasks and processes that enhance program delivery while ensuring efficient operations.
  • Take initiative in suggesting creative improvements to streamline operations and enhance learner engagement.
  • Assist in onboarding new interns to ensure they are seamlessly integrated into the team and have the necessary tools and knowledge to contribute effectively, helping to maintain smooth operational workflows.

REQUIREMENTS

Core Competencies (Who you are):

  • Deep Learner Empathy: You are genuinely passionate about the learner experience. You can easily put yourself in a learner's shoes and write communications that feel supportive, not robotic.
  • Proactive Problem-Solver: You have a "get-it-done" attitude. You don't just spot problems; you anticipate them and take ownership of finding solutions.
  • Exceptional Organisation & Prioritisation: You can manage multiple moving parts (like an event, a comms plan, and a report) at the same time and know what to work on first.
  • Analytical Mindset: You are curious about the "why" behind the data. You can look at a spreadsheet and move from "what" (the number) to "so what" (the insight).
  • Adaptability & Resilience: You thrive in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly. You view feedback as a gift.

Must-Have Skills:

  • Exceptional Written Communication: Ability to write clear, empathetic, and persuasive copy for different audiences (e.g., motivational community posts vs. structured email instructions).
  • Community-Minded & Proactive: A genuine passion for building community and a proactive, problem-solving mindset to support the learner experience.
  • Virtual Event Facilitation: Experience hosting or managing virtual events and workshops using tools like Zoom, Slido, or Mentimeter.
  • Structured Planning & Organisation: Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, create a logical plan (for communications, an event, or a report), and meet deadlines.

Preferred Skills (Nice-to-Have):

  • Data Literacy & Basic Analysis: Comfortable using Google Sheets (or Excel) to analyse program data, identify trends, and find the "so what" behind the numbers.
  • Data Storytelling: Experience turning data insights into a clear and compelling report or presentation (e.g., using Google Slides or Canva).
  • Content Creation: Familiarity with design tools like Canva for creating simple, engaging graphics for community posts or events.

P.S. Previous participation in an ALX program (as a learner or volunteer mentor) is a strong advantage.

Person Attributes

  • Courage: Willingness to speak up, challenge the status quo, and embrace new challenges.
  • Humility: Openness to learning, seeking help when needed, and a focus on serving others.
  • Adventure: A passion for setting ambitious goals, tackling difficult tasks, and finding joy in the journey.
  • Initiative: Proactive problem-solving, a sense of ownership, and a willingness to go above and beyond.
  • Resilience: The ability to bounce back from setbacks, persevere through challenges, and emerge stronger.
