Job Title: Associate Consultant
Status: Full-time, non-exempt
Location: At least 4 days in the San Francisco office and up to 1 day remote for the first 3 months; at least 3 days in the office and up to 2 days remote after initial 3 months. On occasion, you may be asked to work additional days in the office or remotely from other locations as needed.
Schedule: 40 hours/week M-F, 9 am to 5 pm (PT); schedule may shift according to client needs and current projects, with occasional travel, early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
Pay rate: $62,600; in keeping with A.M. Crawford’s Pay Equity Policy, the salary for this position is non-negotiable.

AMC is currently seeking a qualified candidate to join our grants management client services team. Preferred qualifications include experience with post-award management for government grants (state and federal); a high proficiency in working with numbers and spreadsheets, knowledge of Universal Grant Guidance, and bookkeeping and compliance experience.
Position Summary: Associate Consultants at AMC are responsible for providing advanced administrative and project management support to the leadership team and consultants and for training Development Coordinators. In partnership with a Lead Consultant, Associate Consultants may step in to fulfill a Lead role on finite projects. Associate Consultants may also act as Leads for specific clients, working collaboratively with their manager. Associate Consultants coordinate activities, assist with research, manage databases, and complete other related work as needed. The Associate Consultant is evaluated based on how they carry out these responsibilities; overall client and employee satisfaction as measured by formal and informal client and team feedback; and the progress they have made towards the performance goals outlined in their annual goal-setting worksheets. Typically, Associate Consultants have professional experience in a nonprofit fundraising or finance setting and/or a degree in a relevant field.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks
- Prepare proposals, reports (financial and narrative), and branded, professional documents using Word, Excel, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Adobe, and/or database software for AMC and client communications.
- Advise clients and ensure team members’ compliance with grant agreements, funding and receiving agency regulations, and universal grant guidance for post-award grant management teams.
- Manage client relationships, client projects, and efficiently lead teams to complete project deliverables. These Lead Consultant responsibilities will not exceed 50% of an Associate Consultant's time.
- Train Interns and Development Coordinators. With a training schedule provided by management, provide training and be available for questions and job shadowing on an ongoing basis for Interns and new Development Coordinators.
- Create and/or update supplemental documentation for federal grant applications including but not limited to project budgets, SF424a, SF424, and other documentation requested by the funder.
- Collaborate with AMC staff to research and identify potential funding opportunities, including government and foundation grants, major donors and other funding sources.
- Manage and maintain grant application and post-award deadline calendars, set up projects in Asana, and schedule deadline-associated tasks. Communicate with team members to help keep projects on schedule.
- Assist in the preparation of reports and grant proposals, ensuring accuracy and adherence to guidelines, and provide written direction to AMC grant writers.
- Collect documents for reports and grant applications including but not limited to letters of support, project outcomes, and financial information.
- Schedule meetings with clients.
- Track and maintain records of post-award grant projects and pre-award grant applications, including deadlines, requirements, and outcomes.
- Manage efficient, easy-to-access filing systems (paper and electronic), and maintain and organize files (hard copy, Asana, Sharepoint and/or Google Drive).
- Research foundation and grant databases for client and proposal/reporting needs.
- Integrate and manage new software systems for company wide use, as needed.
- Coordinate and collect information and action items, including taking minutes if needed, for client and team meetings.
- Track all hours/projects in Asana & Harvest. Keep your AMC calendar up-to-date and accurate.
- Communicate with the CEO, COO, staff, consultants, and clients. Respond to incoming electronic communications (email, chat, text, voicemail, etc.) in a timely manner.
- Maintain confidentiality of all client information.

Administrative skills: You have excellent organizational and administrative skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet deadlines. You excel at creating and maintaining files, records, and other administrative tasks. You are also proficient at using administrative software and tools and are able to train staff on company systems.
Communication: You possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write and speak persuasively, develop clear and concise written materials, and to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues. You also have strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build and maintain strong, professional relationships.
Advancing Company Systems and Procedures: You have a working knowledge of how to use systems to improve project management workflows. You take a leading stakeholder role in advancing company procedures as they relate to technology, templates, and other systems that we use to continually improve client services.
Research: You have strong research skills, including the ability to gather and synthesize information from a variety of sources. You are able to use these research skills to support client projects and AMC as a company. You may also be asked to research products or software systems that could benefit the entire organization. For example, looking into Salesforce and other CRMs like Bloomerang for potential company migration to these products. Additionally, you could be called upon to research Chat-GPT and other AI tools to assess suitability for company use.
Software Literacy: You are comfortable using all of AMC’s and AMC clients’ software platforms (Asana, Harvest, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workplace, Foundation Directory Online, Salesforce, Sharepoint, Instrumentl, Grantstation, Dropbox, etc.) and can navigate other online platforms effectively. You are able to use these software tools to support your administrative and fundraising work.
Fundraising: You have a working knowledge of fundraising, grant writing, donor relations and nonprofit management, and you are committed to advancing your knowledge and expertise. You are able to work with AMC staff and contractors to provide substantial support for fundraising efforts.
Compensation and Benefits
This full-time, non-exempt position has an annual salary of $62,600. This amount is based on a variety of factors including but not limited to analyzing comparable jobs and the associated salaries along with the location of this position.
- Paid, Unlimited Vacation Time (UVT): After the completion of a 90-day introductory onboarding period. AMC’s UVT policy gives you the flexibility to take as much vacation time off as is reasonable as long as it does not interfere with your work responsibilities, performance metrics, work completion, and the quality of your work. AMC employees are accountable for ensuring that they balance their UVT with performance expectations.
- Paid Holidays in keeping with the City/County of San Francisco’s Holidays
- December Holiday break: Paid week off between Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
- Paid Sick Time: 1 hour earned per 30 hours worked starting on the first day of employment. You can begin utilizing earned sick time 60 calendar days after you begin working.
- Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangement (ICHRA): On the first of the month 30 calendar days after your first day of employment, you are eligible to participate in AMC’s ICHRA benefit and receive a $500 AMC employer contribution. You will also have the ability to set aside additional pre-tax salary funds to pay for medical health insurance premiums.
- Elective Dependent Care FSA: On the first of the month 30 calendar days after your first day of employment, you are eligible to elect to participate in this benefit and to set aside pre-tax funds to pay for child or elderly care costs.
- Home Internet and Home Office Budget - Starting January 1, 2025, AMC will reimburse employees with a hybrid work schedule for home internet usage and office supplies, up to $400 annually.
- 401K Retirement: All full and part-time employees are automatically enrolled in AMC’s 401(k) plan after six months of employment. AMC will contribute 100% of your elective deferral contributions up to 1% of compensation plus 50% of your elective deferral contributions over 1% up to 6% of compensation.
- Matching Gifts Program - AMC offers a corporate Matching Gift Program to full and part-time employees, which makes donations to charitable organizations that employees personally support. AMC matches - dollar for dollar up to $150 per year - donations made by employees, to nonprofit organizations and/or educational institutions. Matching gift requests must be made in the same year that you donated.
- New Business Bonus: You will be eligible to earn a bonus of 10% of the initial contract amount on any new client that you introduce to AMC, paid quarterly during the initial year or project period. New business bonus payments are capped at $5,000 per client. New clients are defined as those who are not already in our business development pipeline, who have not discussed our services with us or have not yet received a proposal.
- Performance Bonus: Staff members who are satisfactorily meeting or exceeding their profitability metrics will receive a $2,000 bonus; 50% paid in August based on January - June performance; 50% paid out in January based on July - December performance.
