Sr Staff Product Manager, Energy Systems

Reno, Nevada, United States; San Francisco, California, United States

Company Overview

Amperesand is reinventing how the world powers its most critical systems.

We are facing a once-in-a-generation opportunity for infrastructure disruption. Electricity demand is skyrocketing, driven by AI factories, electric vehicles, and modern industrial growth. Energy supply is shifting to incorporate a more diverse mix of resources – including solar, gas, and batteries – at a massive scale.

And yet the power infrastructure behind our latest mega-projects hasn’t meaningfully changed in nearly 100 years. Supply chains for today’s infrastructure equipment can’t match the pace and sophistication of critical energy projects. Amperesand is building hardware and software that rewrites this broken power infrastructure playbook to support a new era of energy abundance.

We’ve built a new class of intelligent, software-defined power infrastructure products leveraging a decade of advanced medium voltage Solid State Transformer research that’s now ready for commercial deployment.

Our products and solutions go far beyond the capabilities of traditional electrical equipment. We make power systems that are faster to deploy, dramatically smaller and more efficient, and capable of supporting modern, dynamic energy needs for tomorrow’s most demanding energy consumers.

Scalable in-house advanced manufacturing capability is our foundation for meeting timeline and quality expectation to serve infrastructure customers around the world.

Amperesand is led by breakthrough energy hardware development veterans and funded by top tier investors who share our vision of building a category-defining energy technology company.

With hubs in San Francisco, Reno, and Singapore, our global team is laser focused on building foundational technology to solve the most pressing problems in power infrastructure at scale.

Join us in building the power foundation of the future!

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Staff Product Manager, Energy Systems, to lead the product strategy and definition of Amperesand’s next-generation Site Power Orchestration Platform.

This role will define how Solid-State Transformers, battery systems, generators, renewable energy resources, and AI data center loads are coordinated in real time to optimize site-level energy performance across hyperscale data centers, EV charging hubs, and hybrid microgrid deployments.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise across EMS, DERMS, grid-interactive energy systems, and infrastructure software platforms, along with the ability to translate complex operational and customer requirements into scalable software product capabilities.

This is a highly strategic individual contributor role focused on product leadership, market understanding, customer value creation, and cross-functional alignment across software, controls, systems engineering, and power infrastructure teams.

The role requires a strong understanding of energy systems and operational infrastructure, combined with the ability to shape long-term product direction for next-generation energy orchestration platforms.

What You’ll Do

  • Define product strategy for site-level energy orchestration platforms across hyperscale infrastructure, EV charging, and hybrid energy systems
  • Own EMS, controls, telemetry, optimization, and orchestration product requirements across distributed energy infrastructure platforms
  • Develop product strategy connecting embedded controls, site optimization, cloud-connected software services, and customer operational outcomes
  • Define multi-vendor battery backup unit (BBU) and energy storage system (ESS) integration frameworks
  • Work directly with hyperscalers, utilities, EPCs, and infrastructure partners to translate operational requirements into scalable software platform capabilities
  • Define grid-interactive functionality including curtailment, dispatch, redundancy, resiliency, and power quality optimization strategies
  • Drive product requirements for real-time energy optimization, site-level power management, and software-enabled operational intelligence
  • Support commercialization strategies for software-enabled recurring revenue streams and platform services
  • Partner closely with Engineering, Controls, and Systems teams to drive product direction, execution clarity, and scalable platform requirements across energy infrastructure systems
  • Lead cross-functional alignment across software, controls, systems engineering, and infrastructure platform initiatives to support scalable product development and customer deployment
  • Provide market intelligence and product leadership across emerging energy orchestration, distributed energy, and hyperscale infrastructure trends

What You’ll Bring

  • 15+ years of experience in EMS, DERMS, VPP, storage controls, grid-interactive energy software, or related infrastructure software platforms
  • Strong understanding of utility-connected power systems, distributed energy resources, and site-level energy optimization
  • Experience with battery dispatch strategies, market participation, site optimization, or grid services orchestration
  • Experience working with real-world deployed energy systems and operational infrastructure platforms
  • Strong understanding of software product strategy, telemetry systems, cloud-connected infrastructure software, and energy platform ecosystems
  • Familiarity with CAISO, ERCOT, PJM, or similar grid operations and energy market structures preferred
  • Experience supporting hyperscale data center power systems, AI infrastructure, or critical power environments strongly preferred
  • Ability to bridge software, controls, systems engineering, and power engineering disciplines within highly technical organizations
  • Strong product leadership, customer engagement, market intelligence, and cross-functional communication skills
  • Proven ability to lead highly strategic infrastructure software initiatives in complex technical environments

Nice to Have

  • Experience with storage EMS or site microgrid orchestration platforms
  • Experience supporting utility DER integration or grid services optimization
  • Familiarity with renewable plus storage integration architectures
  • Exposure to real-time controls environments and distributed energy coordination systems
  • Experience operating in startup or rapid product development environments

Working Model

This is a full-time onsite role based in the Bay Area, with in-person collaboration expected five days a week.

Given the highly collaborative and cross-functional nature of software, controls, systems engineering, and infrastructure platform development, onsite partnership across engineering and product teams is critical to enabling rapid execution, technical alignment, and product scalability.

Why Join Amperesand

  • Help define the future of intelligent energy orchestration for AI infrastructure, distributed energy systems, and next-generation power platforms
  • Work at the intersection of energy software, power electronics, controls, and large-scale infrastructure systems
  • Influence foundational platform strategy across hyperscale data centers, storage systems, EV charging infrastructure, and grid-interactive energy platforms
  • Join a fast-moving startup solving critical power and energy infrastructure challenges for the next generation of electrification and AI compute growth
  • High ownership, visibility, and opportunity to shape software-enabled infrastructure products from early platform definition through large-scale deployment

Race & Ethnicity Definitions

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
