About The Role

Amplitude is seeking a Design Director to lead product design for our core analytics, data management products and growth teams. This pivotal role will shape the user experience across multiple product areas, ensuring a seamless and impactful journey for both technical and non-technical users. As a key member of the Product Development leadership team, you will report to the VP of Design and collaborate closely with Product Management, Engineering, and Go-To-Market teams to drive strategic design excellence.

What You'll Do

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a talented team of product designers, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and growth.
  • Partner closely with PM, Engineering, and GTM leaders to define product strategy and ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Establish and uphold high design quality standards, ensuring consistency and excellence across Amplitude’s suite of products.
  • Act as a player-coach, balancing high-level strategic vision with hands-on design inspiration when necessary.
  • Drive organization-wide enthusiasm for design’s strategic impact on the business.

Strategic Design Execution

  • Define and influence the design strategy for Amplitude’s Foundations and Growth teams, ensuring alignment with business goals.
  • Advocate for customer-centric, data-informed design solutions that prioritize usability and deliver measurable business value.
  • Establish and refine design processes to enhance efficiency, quality, and innovation.

Data-Informed Design & Innovation

  • Develop frameworks for leveraging Amplitude’s analytics tools to drive iterative design improvements.
  • Train designers to effectively interpret data and apply insights to user experience enhancements.
  • Foster a culture of experimentation and data-driven decision-making across the design team.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Act as the primary design leader collaborating with Product, Engineering, and Go-To-Market teams to bring Amplitude’s vision to market.
  • Ensure seamless alignment across product areas, delivering a cohesive and impactful user experience.

User Research & Testing

  • Champion user research and usability testing, ensuring data and customer feedback continuously refine product design.
  • Promote methodologies that prioritize user needs, leading to more intuitive and effective experiences.
