Title: Director, Business Development
Location: Remote with at least 30% travels to Angitia site for meetings in Guangzhou, China
Position Overview:
The Director will lead business development transactions in China and manage any subsequent alliances. As time and priorities allow, the Director will support global business development initiatives, commercialization (and partnership strategy) development for the global pipeline, and support general management initiatives in the GZ office. The Director will work in China and report to the Vice President, Head of Business Development in Westlake Village, California.
Key Responsibilities:
- Under guidance from the Head of Business Development, lead end-to-end deal processes including sourcing, diligence, negotiation, contract execution, and alliance management for partnership opportunities in China and Asia.
- Support the Head of Business Development on end-to-end deal processes including sourcing, diligence, negotiation, contract execution, and alliance management on global partnership opportunities.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for alliances in China, driving governance processes including joint steering committees, operational reviews, and dispute resolution.
- Prepare business cases, financial models, and competitive analyses to support deal recommendations for assets in China as well as the global assets.
- Identify and evaluate opportunities for partnerships, licensing, and acquisitions with Big Pharma.
- Support the development of commercialization and partnering strategies for the clinical portfolio, including conducting market assessments, competitive analysis, and scenario planning.
- Support Sr. executives as needed on general management initiatives in Guangzhou office (e.g. diligence requests from investors and/or global pharma, preparation for important internal meetings, i.e. Executive Committee, Board of Directors, and/or implementation of the global operating model in GZ).
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in life sciences, biotechnology, or related field (e.g., PhD, MD, MS) and/or business (e.g. MBA).
- 8+ years of experience in business development within biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.
- Fluency in Mandarin and English; strong cross-cultural communication and business relationship skills.
- Deep understanding of China’s biotech and pharmaceutical landscape, including the regulatory environment (NMPA), market access, and leading companies.
- Proven track record of executing licensing, partnership, or M&A transactions.
- Strong financial acumen and ability to develop valuation models.
- Experience in alliance management.
- Experience developing commercialization strategy for clinical-stage assets, including leading engagements with external stakeholders (e.g., KOLs, payers, consultants, etc.).
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and multi-cultural environment
