Mobile Engineering Manager

As a Mobile Engineering Manager, you will help lead a high-performing team of mobile engineers across both frontend (Flutter/Dart/Native) and backend (AWS) development. You will blend leadership excellence, technical expertise, and effective project management to deliver world-class mobile applications. This role requires someone who is passionate about people development, creating an empowering culture, and removing blockers to help your team thrive. You will manage engineers ranging from junior to lead level, fostering their growth while ensuring delivery of scalable, high-quality mobile solutions that align with business objectives.

Leadership & People Development

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a diverse team of mobile engineers across frontend and backend disciplines, from junior developers to lead engineers
  • Foster a culture of trust, accountability, transparency, and fun where engineers feel empowered to do their best work
  • Provide career development opportunities through regular 1-on-1s, conduct performance assessments, set meaningful goals, and deliver constructive feedback that helps team members reach their full potential
  • Champion an uplifting, unblocking attitude that removes obstacles and maximizes team productivity and satisfaction
  • Work closely with the Senior Mobile Engineering Manager to align on vision, strategy, and team development initiatives

Technical Oversight & Architecture

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering teams on mobile architecture, AWS backend integration, and best practices, while empowering lead and senior engineers to drive day-to-day technical decisions
  • Collaborate with leads to establish and maintain coding standards, architectural patterns, and development methodologies across the mobile team
  • Participate in code reviews to maintain quality standards and provide technical mentorship
  • Work with other engineering managers to align on organizational standards, share best practices, and drive engineering excellence
  • Actively contribute to development efforts when needed to address critical project needs or demonstrate technical leadership by example
  • Proactively identify technical debt and advocate for its prioritization alongside feature development

Project & Program Management

  • Work closely with product managers and stakeholders to define project scope, goals, deliverables, and success metrics
  • Facilitate team standups and backlog refinement sessions to ensure team alignment, remove blockers, and maintain development momentum
  • Drive project management activities including timeline management, task coordination in Jira, backlog prioritization, and delivery milestone tracking using Kanban and Agile methodologies
  • Allocate resources effectively, considering skill sets, workload, and development opportunities to optimize team productivity
  • Track and communicate team KPIs, delivery metrics, and progress toward OKRs to leadership and stakeholders

Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement

  • Partner with QA teams to support robust testing strategies, automation, CI/CD pipelines, and monitoring practices that ensure application quality and reliability
  • Work closely with QA on bug tracking and resolution processes in Jira to maintain high-quality standards
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies, incorporating relevant innovations into team strategy
  • Drive continuous improvement in team tools, processes, technical debt management, and engineering practices
  • Oversee support workflows, tracking key metrics and driving continuous improvement

Risk Management

  • Conduct risk assessments, establish contingency plans, and develop effective mitigation strategies for project risks
  • Lead incident response for production issues, ensuring rapid resolution and learning from post-mortems

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of software development experience across frontend, backend, and mobile, with strength in application architecture and shipping production-grade apps.
  • 2+ years of proven experience leading and managing engineering teams, with demonstrated ability to develop talent, conduct performance reviews, and grow engineers from junior to senior levels
  • Strong project and development management skills using Jira, Kanban, and Agile methodologies to deliver complex projects on time with high quality
  • Experience with metrics and KPI tracking to measure team performance, delivery outcomes, and continuous improvement
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills with proven ability to mentor, provide constructive feedback, lead technical discussions, and influence cross-functional stakeholders
  • Demonstrated success building and maintaining positive team culture with an empowering, uplifting, and unblocking leadership style
  • Technical expertise in mobile development technologies ideally including Flutter/Dart or other cross-platforms, native platforms, AWS backend services, CI/CD pipelines, and modern architecture patterns
  • Passion for people development with a track record of growing engineers' skills, careers, and job satisfaction

Nice to Have

  • Experience managing both frontend and backend mobile engineers within a unified team
  • Experience in startup or high-growth environments
  • Advanced AWS expertise with certifications (AWS Certified Developer or Solutions Architect)
  • Experience with TypeScript and MySQL for backend development
  • Knowledge of GraphQL federation patterns and advanced API optimization
  • Experience with monitoring and analytics tools (CloudWatch, Datadog, Sentry)
  • IoT and industrial device integration expertise for manufacturing or industrial environments
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) experience with CloudFormation or Terraform
  • Previous experience scaling mobile teams through rapid growth phases
