Senior Forward Deployed Engineer

Mountain View, CA

Who we are

Atoms is building the machines that power the next era of progress.

Over the last decade, software has transformed the digital world. But the physical world, where food is made, minerals are mined, goods are moved, and industries are run, remains far less intelligent, far less efficient, and far more constrained. We’re changing that.

Atoms builds Physical AI— real-world robots for the industries that move civilization forward, starting with food, mining, and transport. Our systems are designed to understand, predict, and control the real world with precision, turning complex physical operations into something more reliable, more scalable, and more productive.

This work requires more than robotics. It requires deep integration across hardware, software, AI, operations, manufacturing, and real estate. We don’t just build machines in a lab. We deploy them into real environments, operate them, learn from them, and improve them until they work at scale.

We are roboticists, engineers, operators, and builders. We believe the next great technology companies will not only transform information, but the physical systems that shape everyday life.

If you want to work on hard problems with real-world impact, join us.

What you’ll do

As a Forward Deployed Engineer on the Bionic Enterprise team, you’ll embed with teams across Atoms to improve how the company works using AI and software. You’ll combine engineering, product judgment, and hands-on problem solving to take problems from discovery through deployment and measurable results.

  • Work directly with business teams to understand their workflows, uncover bottlenecks, and identify where automation can save time, reduce errors, or improve decisions.
  • Turn ambiguous problems into clear priorities. Use data and conversations with users to define the problem, determine what’s worth solving, and establish how you’ll measure success.
  • Build and deploy applications, integrations, and AI-powered workflows. Use AI development tools to move quickly while understanding and taking responsibility for the systems you ship.
  • Own delivery end to end: scope the first useful solution, connect the necessary systems and data, test it, put it into users’ hands, and iterate based on real usage.
  • Drive adoption and measure outcomes. Work alongside users until the solution becomes part of how they work and delivers the intended results.
  • Turn successful solutions into reusable tools and capabilities. Partner with platform and engineering teams to make them reliable, maintainable, and useful across other parts of the business.

What we’re looking for

  • A bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of experience building and delivering software. Your background may include software engineering, forward deployed engineering, solutions engineering, founding a company, or hands-on technical consulting.
  • A track record of taking initiative and getting useful things into production. You can point to problems you identified, solutions you built, and outcomes you helped achieve.
  • Strong product and business judgment. You ask good questions, challenge assumptions, and distinguish a worthwhile problem from an interesting technical exercise.
  • Practical engineering skills across applications, APIs, databases, and integrations. You can make sound architecture decisions and work effectively in unfamiliar systems.
  • Experience using AI coding tools to accelerate development, with the ability to explain, debug, test, and maintain the code they produce.
  • Comfort working with LLMs and AI-powered workflows, including deciding when a simpler automation is the better solution.
  • A strong sense of ownership and urgency. You can reduce scope, make sensible tradeoffs, and work through technical and organizational blockers while respecting security and access requirements.
  • Clear communication with technical and nontechnical teams. You build trust with users, explain tradeoffs plainly, and take responsibility for adoption as well as implementation.
