User Researcher

About Augment Code

The best software comes from Augmenting developers, not replacing them. We’re bringing joy back to software engineering and keeping developers in flow by building the best AI programming tools, with radical contextual awareness of your codebase that benefits teams.

About the role

At Augment, we believe that to build world-class AI tools, we must have a deep understanding of the developers who use them. That’s where you come in. As a User Researcher, you’ll be at the heart of our product strategy, shaping how we craft solutions that empower developers and engineering teams across the globe. Your insights will directly influence key decisions, and you'll guide cross-functional teams in translating complex user needs into elegant, intuitive experiences. If you’re someone who thrives on complexity and can see the patterns in seemingly chaotic feedback, you’ll love this role.

Your mission is to dive deep into the mindset of engineers and enterprise teams, uncovering their challenges, motivations, and desires. You’ll turn those insights into action, helping us create tools that developers love to use—and that make them even more productive.

Examples of What You Could Do:

  • Observe an engineering team at a client site to understand how they use Augment’s tools and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Conduct interviews with developers to explore how they approach AI-assisted coding, then turn insights into actionable product features.
  • Run usability studies to streamline the onboarding experience for new users, helping them succeed faster.
  • Create personas and journey maps based on user feedback to guide design and product decisions.
  • Present key findings to leadership, influencing the product roadmap.

You Will:

  • Lead research efforts to uncover how developers and teams use our AI tools and turn findings into actionable product insights.
  • Collaborate across teams to integrate user needs into product decisions at every stage.
  • Design and execute research strategies that highlight pain points and areas for innovation in the developer experience.
  • Conduct interviews, tests, and surveys to gather feedback and present it in ways that inspire action across the company.
  • Advocate for users throughout product development, ensuring their needs are prioritized.

Required skills and experience:

We encourage people from all kinds of backgrounds to apply, including and especially candidates from underrepresented and non-traditional backgrounds.

  • 5+ years of user research experience, ideally in enterprise software or AI products.
  • Expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methods—able to dig into data and tell compelling user stories.
  • Proven ability to influence product decisions with research insights.
  • A creative, hands-on problem-solver who translates user feedback into clear solutions.
  • Strong communicator, skilled at presenting complex findings to both technical and non-technical teams.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, startup environment and handling ambiguity with ease.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with AI or developer tools.
  • Passion for improving developer workflows and experiences.
  • Familiarity with tools for measuring user engagement and satisfaction in software.

Employee Benefits:

  • Flexible work hours
  • Competitive salary & Equity. We recently announced our $227M funding raise
  • Tools Stipend
  • Health, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance
  • Short Term and Long Term Disability
  • Unlimited Paid Time Off + Holidays. We focus on trust and ownership, not time in the chair
  • Numerous company social events

We will do everything we can within reason to make sure that your interview takes place in an environment that fairly and accurately assesses your skills. If you need assistance or accommodation, please contact your recruiter.

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
