ABOUT THE GROWTH TEAM

The 12+ person Growth team is responsible for shaping Orchestra’s new business and growth strategy, focusing on integrating capabilities across firms, driving new business outreach and providing expert counsel on how to shape business growth for new and current clients across Orchestra and Orchestra companies.

 

ABOUT THIS ROLE

Orchestra is seeking a Business Development Manager or Director to join our Growth team. This person will provide business insights, strategic guidance and tactical support to the firm’s corporate, technology, crisis and sports client teams, helping identify and secure new business opportunities with major organizations and brands. This role will require strong project management and writing skills, as well as an ability to deftly maneuver diverse issue areas. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of business, political and cultural issues, strong business acumen and firm organizational skills. A background in business development is preferred, but not required.

Note: This is not a sales role and cold calls are not involved. Rather, we are looking for business strategists who can help best position the firm for sustained relationships with high-value clients. 

Role location: This role is based in our New York, N.Y. or Washington, D.C. office on a hybrid basis, in-office 3 days per week.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

As a Business Development Manager or Director on the Growth team, you will...

  • Focus on business development strategy and content development to support the firm’s corporate, technology, sports and crisis practice areas
  • Lead multiple projects at once while engaging with many different people and personalities, coordinating between firms and teams, researching new projects and drafting tailor-made, engaging written content
  • Be a key strategic member of this dynamic, scaling team under the Vice President of Business Development for Tech and Corporate 
  • Interface with the client teams and oversee and draft client pitches, proposals and responses to RFPs by drawing on practice area knowledge, as well as overseeing related assignments such as client research

Essential skills:

  • 3-7+ years of professional experience, across relevant backgrounds such as public relations, legal, professional services or business sectors
  • Experience in business development, including drafting new business proposals and producing tailored research (note: this is not a sales job)
  • Excellent project management, with the ability to prioritize work streams and track progress across multiple teams
  • Expert multitasking skills with the ability to handle multiple projects at once, work quickly and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with high attention to detail
  • Strong writing and research skills that ensure that every stone is overturned along with the creation of sharp, compelling content

Preferred skills:

  • Experience in client relations—whether it’s been in professional services, technology and innovation, political campaigns or more, we appreciate candidates from all professional backgrounds and are excited to incorporate your myriad of experiences into our work
  • Proficiency with Excel, creating and managing budgets and basic data management in CRMs like Salesforce or Hubspot.
  • Strong proficiency in Google Docs and Google Slides

 

WORKING AT ORCHESTRA

Compensation philosophy: Orchestra offers competitive industry rate salary bands with the goal of retaining and growing talented individuals. We regularly review and adjust our compensation structure as needed to ensure equity across teams and levels.

Salary range (commensurate with experience and skills):

  • Manager: $80,000-$110,000
  • Director: $110,000-$130,000

Directors are eligible for end of year bonuses (typically in even years) based on firm, team and individual performance.
