What are we looking for?
We are looking for a Corporate Counsel to join our lean and highly impactful legal team supporting Teladoc’s key asset, BetterHelp. Teladoc is an ever-growing, dynamic and world-spanning public parent company. BetterHelp is the world’s largest virtual counseling service and a critical component to Teladoc’s current and future growth.
This individual will be a key contributor to all aspects of BetterHelp’s legal needs. An ideal candidate for this position must have flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and organizational needs. They will have an outstanding sense of commerciality and will be solutions focused. In addition, the candidate will have the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, growing, exciting environment and to take ownership of projects and programs.
The growing BetterHelp legal team currently consists of two individuals with the support of the larger Teladoc team when needed. We are generalists who work hard and move quickly to support our team, but we also respect work-life balance and value the personal lives of the members of our team. We are looking to add someone to our group who brings their unique vision and talents to the table and who shares our passion for continual growth and improvement.
What will you do?
- Negotiate and draft contracts (Master Services, BAAs, Provider Agreements) with healthcare payors and groups.
- Negotiate and draft product partnership agreements, sales contracts, marketing affiliate/partner agreements, advertising/creative/podcast/influencer agreements, SAAS, and vendor agreements in compliance with applicable laws with a focus on data security and privacy laws across the globe.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and administering a plan to attain and maintain corporate status as a Covered Entity under HIPAA
- Set-up and maintain a small network of friendly state professional corporations (filing, registrations, regulatory requirements)
- Maintain and track laws and regulations, contract documentation, amendments, and various compliance measures. Develop policies, procedures, and processes to comply with state law, federal law, contract requirements, and various standards
- Assist with overall administration of Company’s corporate compliance program, and in particular, the Company’s compliance with its Federal Trade Commission Consent Order
- Perform assessments of risks and mitigation of potential breach incidents
- Provide guidance to various departments regarding compliance issues and implementation of new compliance requirements with respect to regulatory and contract language requirements
- Conduct legal research and advise the business on applicable laws and regulations as they enter other healthcare markets.

- You will NOT worry about "runway", "cash left", or "how much time we have until the next round". We have the startup DNA but we're fully backed and funded, all the way to success.
- You will NOT be confined to your "job". You will get involved in product, marketing, business strategy, and almost everything we do.

Can I work remotely?
Yes. We operate on PST and candidates in any time zone are welcome to apply. We ask employees to travel to our Mountain View, CA office up to three times per year plus one company-wide offsite to collaborate in person and strengthen working relationships. Travel expenses are covered and reasonable accommodations are made for those under unique circumstances who cannot travel.
Requirements
- You must be egoless, value collaboration, and be ready to put in the hard work to accomplish whatever the job demands.
- Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited U.S. law school and member of the bar of a U.S. jurisdiction
- 5+ years of legal experience

The base salary range for this position is $165,000 - $200,000. In addition to the base salary, this position is eligible for a performance bonus and the extensive benefits listed here (subject to eligibility requirements): Teladoc Health Benefits 2024. Total compensation is based on several factors – including, but not limited to, type of position, location, education level, work experience, and certifications.
