Sr. Manager, IT Infrastructure

Location: Massachusetts (Hybrid – minimum 3 days onsite per week)

Position Summary

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Sr. Manager, IT Infrastructure to lead the design, modernization, and operational management of our enterprise infrastructure. This role encompasses ownership of network, datacenter, and virtualization environments, ensuring high availability, scalability, security, and performance.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in VMware-based virtualization, datacenter refresh initiatives, and managing medium-to-large enterprise environments (1000+ servers).

Manage and optimize enterprise environments supporting 1000+ servers.

Experience in virtualization technologies - preferably VMware (we currently use VMware, Promox and Openstack, but things may change later).

Knowledge of enterprise networking (routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs).

-> This is a hybrid role based in Massachusetts, requiring a minimum of three days per week on site.

Key Responsibilities:

Infrastructure Strategy & Operations

  • Define and execute the strategy for network, datacenter, and virtualization infrastructure, ensuring scalability, resilience, and security
  • Lead day-to-day operations across on-premises datacenters, enterprise networks, and hybrid cloud environments
  • Drive datacenter modernization and refresh programs, including hardware lifecycle management and capacity planning
  • Oversee VMware environments (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter) to ensure optimal performance and reliability

Leadership & Team Development:

  • Lead, mentor, and scale a high-performing team of engineers and technical specialists
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement
  • Provide coaching, career development, and performance management
  • Recruit and retain top infrastructure talent

Large-Scale Environment Management:

  • Manage and optimize enterprise environments supporting 800+ servers
  • Ensure infrastructure meets the demands of a complex, growing organization
  • Drive automation and standardization to improve efficiency and reduce operational overhead

Vendor & Stakeholder Management:

  • Own and manage strategic vendor relationships, including contracts, negotiations, and SLA performance
  • Partner with vendors for datacenter services, hardware procurement, and infrastructure solutions
  • Collaborate with Security, DevOps, Engineering, and business teams to align priorities

Security, Compliance & Reliability:

  • Partner with cybersecurity teams to ensure secure and compliant infrastructure operations
  • Lead disaster recovery and business continuity planning, including testing and improvements
  • Develop and maintain incident response frameworks
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements

Innovation & Continuous Improvement:

  • Drive innovation through automation, infrastructure-as-code, and modern tooling
  • Evaluate emerging technologies to improve scalability and efficiency
  • Establish monitoring, reporting, and observability frameworks

 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 8+ years in IT infrastructure, including 3+ years in a leadership role
  • Proven experience managing enterprise-scale environments (800+ servers)
  • Strong expertise in VMware virtualization technologies
  • Experience leading datacenter refresh and modernization initiatives
  • Deep knowledge of enterprise networking (routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs)
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Strong vendor management and negotiation expertise
  • Solid understanding of ITIL frameworks
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience

Pay Range

$147,800 - $221,700 USD
