About The Role
IPB Investments is a new private investment team backed by a prominent family business looking for an ambitious Investment Manager. We are an entrepreneurial and nimble team, supported by a strong multi-billion-dollar balance sheet.
Our objective is to find great, high-quality mid-sized businesses ($4-$10m EBITDA), operated by strong leaders, at a reasonable price. This requires a strong work ethic, an ability to build relationships and patience. Unlike private equity, we are not looking to quickly deploy capital to make fees – but rather find good businesses that will compound over time, using our own capital. Therefore, we take a rigorous, patient approach. We recently completed our first investment of a $10m EBITDA franchise consolidation opportunity and looking to both grow this business through acquisition and find the next investment in a different industry. Your role will be to support two senior investors so we can all achieve this goal.
Our main criteria for good businesses are 1. Clear competitive advantage; 2. Track record in FCF generation; 3. Ability to double FCF in 5yrs; 4. Proven leaders that build trust and operate with integrity. We are not focused on early-stage businesses, businesses trading at high-multiples, or turnarounds.
What You'll Do
- Reporting of analysis of existing investments : Own the process for monthly reporting and quarterly reviews with the Investment Committee, including presentation and reporting preparation.
- Analysis of new investments: Support senior team members on both qualitative and quantitative analysis of new middle market investments. Qualitative analysis will include market analysis (demand/supply, customers, competitors, suppliers), assessing management talent and building and maintaining financial and valuation models in excel. A fluent understanding of discounted cash flow models is required as an appreciation of the weakness of high-level valuation methodologies such as EV/EBITDA.
- Identify middle-market investments: Build and strengthen relationships with internal and external stakeholders and identify investment opportunities that meet our criteria. This will include traveling to our offices in Canada and attending industry and investment conferences.
What You Bring
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years valuing businesses and making investment recommendations within private equity, banking or corporate development. Highly proficient in excel, valuation methodology and communicating recommendations. MBA or CFA required.
- Ambition: Proven desire to be successful and the ability to take on a heavy workload.
- Initiative: Track record of using your own creativity to achieve clear objectives.
Our salary ranges and bonus percentages are determined by job family and level. Base salary is determined by a combination of factors including, but not limited to, education and training, years of relevant experience, and internal equity.
Salary
$118,349 - $162,705 CAD
Who You Are
- Trustworthy: You lead with trust when interacting with your team and other departments. You proactively build trust by demonstrating credibility, empathy, and sincerity.
- Humble: Unpretentious and self-aware, you take responsibility for your mistakes. You know that egos are barriers to doing our best work and always learning.
- Community focused: You believe what is created in community is always better than what is created in isolation and excellence is created through collaboration.
