Position Overview

The Director of Project Management is a senior operational leader responsible for overseeing project management activities across the company's rapidly growing Southeastern U.S. operations. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, this role ensures projects are executed safely, profitably, and to the highest quality standards while driving consistency, accountability, and continuous improvement across the project management organization.

As the business continues to expand throughout the Southeast, the Director will lead, mentor, and develop a team of Project Executives, Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, and Project Engineers. This leader will partner closely with Operations, Estimating, Safety, and Executive Leadership to support operational excellence, organizational scalability, and successful project delivery across the region.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in earthwork, site development, and drilling & blasting operations, along with a proven track record leading large-scale heavy civil construction projects and high-performing project management teams.


Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and develop a high-performing project management team across multiple large-scale earthwork, site development, heavy civil, and drilling & blasting projects.
  • Establish clear expectations, performance standards, and accountability for PMs at all levels.
  • Build succession plans and talent pipelines to support the continued growth of the organization throughout the Southeast.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and leadership development to strengthen project delivery capabilities.
  • Foster a culture centered on safety, operational excellence, accountability, and collaboration.

Project Delivery & Execution

  • Oversee the planning, execution, and closeout of projects throughout the Southeastern United States.
  • Ensure projects meet or exceed performance targets for safety, schedule, budget, and quality.
  • Implement standardized PM processes, tools, and reporting to drive consistency across teams.
  • Partner with Operations leadership to ensure seamless coordination between field and office teams.
  • Support the successful execution of projects involving mass earthwork, grading, site development, rock excavation, drilling, and blasting.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, engineering firms, and industry partners.
  • Support business development efforts by participating in client meetings, proposals, and presentations.
  • Ensure client satisfaction and proactively address issues that arise during project execution.
  • Serve as a senior company representative within the Southeast construction market.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience in heavy civil construction, earthwork, site development, drilling & blasting, infrastructure, or related industries.
  • Proven leadership experience managing large PM teams across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Experience supporting or influencing a large-scale P&L ($100M+; ideally $250M+).
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Earthwork and mass excavation
    • Site development
    • Grading and utilities
    • Rock excavation
    • Drilling and blasting operations
    • Heavy civil construction project delivery
  • Demonstrated ability to build processes, develop teams, and drive operational discipline within a growing organization.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Ability to travel throughout the Southeastern United States as needed.

This role is firmly focused on project management leadership and execution, positioned within our fast-growing Atlanta-based Southeast operation and earthwork, site development, and drilling & blasting experience is mandatory.
