Why do we need you? We are seeking a Staff Frontend Engineer to join our growing team. This is a key role where you will focus on creating reusable frontend components for an exciting new product going from 0 to 1. You’ll drive the design and architecture of our frontend system, ensuring scalability, performance, and reusability while embracing microfrontend principles. As a technical leader, you'll bring strong expertise in frontend architecture, cloud infrastructure, and distributed systems, while delivering solutions that empower our users to have seamless, efficient experiences. You will be working with technologies including React, Typescript, Node.js, Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes, and PostgreSQL. This role reports to one of our Engineering Managers and will contribute directly to shaping products in the Contact Management space.

A day in the life of a Staff Frontend Engineer at Calendly

On a typical day, you will be working on:

  • Architectural Design: Lead the implementation of frontend architecture, advocating for best practices in modularity and reusability; your expertise will help guide the evolution of the product’s technical strategy and frontend architecture
  • Microfrontend Leadership: Champion the development and adoption of microfrontend solutions, ensuring that we scale our product with a componentized approach that delivers both flexibility and high performance
  • Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to other engineers, driving the team towards high-quality, effective solutions; you’ll shape decisions on best practices, code quality, testing and architectural direction
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams to ensure the technical feasibility of new features and translate business requirements into delightful product experiences
  • Planning & Execution: As a hands-on contributor, you will work on “Big Rock” initiatives—complex, high-priority projects—delivering on schedule with a focus on quality, clarity, and incremental delivery
  • Vision & Strategy: Define the technical vision for this product's key frontend components, ensuring that they align with business goals and our long-term strategy
  • Guiding your team through challenges and growth, ensuring that solutions align with business objectives, are maintainable, and help scale the product effectively

What do we need from you? 

  • A proven track record in building and maintaining scalable frontend systems, with an emphasis on reusability and microfrontends
  • Proficiency in React, TypeScript, and Node.js; experience with microfrontend architectures and related tools is crucial
  • Experience with unit testing, integration testing, and end-to-end testing for frontend applications; familiarity with testing frameworks like Jest, React Testing Library, or Cypress is essential to ensure high-quality, reliable code
  • Experience using Storybook to develop and test UI components in isolation
  • Availability for participation in on-call rotation, ensuring prompt and effective responses to business-critical alerts outside of regular working hours
  • Authorized to work lawfully in the United States of America as Calendly does not engage in immigration sponsorship at this time

The ranges listed below are the expected annual base salary for this role, subject to change.

Calendly takes a number of factors into consideration when determining an employee’s starting salary, including relevant experience, relevant skills sets, interview performance, location/metropolitan area, and internal pay equity.

Base salary is just one component of Calendly’s total rewards package. All full-time (30 hours/week) employees are also eligible for our Quarterly Corporate Bonus program (or Sales incentive), equity awards, and competitive benefits.

Calendly uses the zip code of an employee’s remote work location, or the onsite building location if hybrid, to determine which metropolitan pay range we use. Current geographic zones are as follows:

  • Tier 1: San Francisco, CA, San Jose, CA, New York City, NY
  • Tier 2: Chicago, IL, Austin, TX, Denver, CO, Boston, MA, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, PA, Portland, OR, Seattle, WA, Miami, FL, and all other cities in CA.
  • Tier 3: All other locations not in Tier 1 or Tier 2

$187,440 - $281,160 USD
