Role: Junior Lawyer (Native Japanese Speaker, Bilingual in English)

Role: We are looking for a native Japanese-speaking junior lawyer (bilingual in English) to join our Tokyo office. You will work with the Japan team and report to the General Manager in Tokyo, the regional HQ in Singapore, and the General Counsel in Singapore. 

Role Details: You will provide support on a regional level for utility-scale and commercial/industrial projects, including: 

  • Preliminary project screening and pre-bid due diligence (focus on land and permitting issues) 
  • Managing and negotiating multiple asset and share acquisitions or renewable projects (primarily using our standard form documentation) 
  • Ongoing project monitoring 
  • General company secretarial duties and approvals 
  • NDAs and client onboarding 

Experience and Skills: 

  • Native Japanese speaker 
  • Qualified in Japanese law (preferable) or a common law jurisdiction with knowledge of Japanese law 
  • Bilingual in English (able to translate legal documents and communicate with English-speaking team members) 
  • Experience in a multinational in-house legal team or working with foreign clients in a domestic or international law firm 
  • Have experience and knowledge of land deals (preferred) 
  • Understand investment schemes such as Silent Partnership and Limited Partnership (preferred) 
  • Ability to work in a small, dynamic, and scaling team 
  • Robust and adaptable
