Role Overview:
The Japan Country Head will lead and oversee all aspects of Peak Energy’s business development, construction, financing and asset management in Japan. This includes full P&L responsibility, developing utility scale solar and BESS projects, a growing distributed generation business, engaging with potential financiers for debt, strategic leadership, and managing a team of ~20 people. The role is critical to driving growth, profitability, and advancing and growing the existing development pipeline. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in renewable energy, particularly solar and BESS, and have a proven track record in leading high-performing teams and delivering complex infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Growth
- Drive expansion of distributed generation (DG) and utility-scale projects (UPP), including signing new PPAs and acquiring new sites.
- Advance existing development pipeline, ensuring construction delivery schedules and budgets are met.
- Identify and capitalize on new market opportunities in Japan’s renewable energy sector.
Profitability & Portfolio Management
- Maintain country-level portfolio profitability.
- Implement action plans to optimize assets.
Operations & Compliance
- Oversee statutory and corporate compliance for all local entities.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting and collaboration to regional teams, including ESG metrics and monthly asset performance.
Team Leadership
- Lead and grow a multidisciplinary team across development, finance, operations, and engineering.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture.
- Coach and mentor team members, contributing to regional growth and capability building.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Represent Peak Energy Japan in external forums, with partners, regulators, and investors.
- Support regional collaboration and knowledge sharing across Asia.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or related field (MBA preferred).
- Proven leadership experience in renewable energy, with solar expertise strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated success in managing P&L and delivering complex infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of Japan’s energy market, regulatory landscape, and development environment.
- Fluent in Japanese and English.
