TITLE: Senior Director of Professional Services
REPORTS TO: Chief Executive Officer
LOCATION: Remote
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-Time, Exempt Employee
At Career Team, our mission is to empower one person, start one career, and serve one family at a time. The workforce development industry has been running on the same software and the same playbook for decades. We're changing that – one state at a time.
Career Team is outrunning the incumbents in workforce development technology — and our delivery is what's making that real for every state we touch. As our Senior Director of Professional Services, you own that promise. You’ll lead the teams that are driving the modernization of legacy systems to a cloud-native, AI-native platform, forging deep client relationships and leaving a trail of raving fans. You won't just run our concurrent state implementations — you'll also lead the teams delivering our Education, nonprofit, municipal, and other government-agency work. It’s a customer-obsession role at heart: when delivery is humming, it’s because you built the engine — and when something’s stuck, you’re already in the room.
What You’ll Own
- State delivery, above all else. Own delivery of our large state implementations — several running at once — as the single most important thing you do. These projects carry real visibility, often reaching the legislature and the governor’s office, with heavy oversight from the state and members of our executive team at the table. You own the quality of our deliveries, partnering with the project management team to keep everything in scope and on schedule.
- A full, varied portfolio. Carry delivery across very different worlds at the same time — large state implementations alongside a fast-growing book of work spanning nonprofits, municipalities, workforce boards, universities, and other state agencies. You’ll switch altitude and context all day without dropping a thread, strategically prioritizing and sequencing the various portfolios so the right clients get the right attention at the right time.
- Build and grow the teams. Stand up and grow the delivery teams that do the work — hiring fast, onboarding faster, and putting the right people on the right projects as we scale. Your teams are the face of Career Team to our clients: they forge the relationships, earn the trust, and know when to protect the work by raising the risk flag early.
- Grow leaders, not just teams. Develop player-coaches first, then the next layer of leadership underneath you. You’re building the organization that scales past you — and the leaders who’ll run it.
- Build software and deliver it, together. Because we’re investing in our platform across all large implementations, you’ll partner closely with our CTO and Product Leadership — ensuring what we ship and what we implement move as one. You’ll bring the field perspective that shapes where our service offering goes next.
- Stay ahead on capacity. Forecast resourcing against a growing pipeline, staff efficiently, and make the calls on where people go — so we keep delivering as we grow, without over-hiring or wearing out the team.
- Balance the needs across the business. Manage competing interests and partner with leaders across the company — PMO, sales, product, operations, and the executive team — working hard to keep delivery moving as fast as we’re growing.
Why This Role
- Our growth is what created it. We’re scaling fast and winning bigger, and we need a delivery leader who can build the engine to match.
- A rare build-from-scratch mandate, reporting directly to the CEO, with room to shape how delivery works for years to come.
- A fight worth picking. We're up against legacy vendors, entrenched processes, and "how state government buys software" expectations — and we're winning anyway.
- Real ownership, real impact, and a seat where your work changes the trajectory of the company.
- We’re big enough to matter, small enough to be nimble; we create the change instead of talking about it.
Who You Are
- A delivery leader and strategic thinker who’s done this before: you’ve built and run professional services or implementation teams through fast growth - and you’ve shaped where those teams needed to go next.
- A genuine driver — biased to action, comfortable owning the outcome, the person who creates momentum instead of waiting for it.
- A builder of people: you’ve hired, coached player-coaches, and grown leaders beneath you, not just managed headcount.
- A rapid context-switcher: you can go from a high-stakes state program review to a scrappy, small-scale implementation in the same afternoon and lose nothing.
- A relationship-builder who isn’t afraid of the direct conversation: when priorities collide, you have the candid talk that gets everyone aligned and leaves the partnership stronger. You know how to protect the work without damaging the relationship.
- Wired to drive, but disciplined enough to respect the process when it counts. Your bias for momentum will create intentional friction with the PMO, and that’s the point: they’re paid to check the boxes, you’re paid to keep us moving, and the right answer usually lives in the tension between you.
- A capacity-and-resourcing mind: you think in staffing plans, utilization, and tradeoffs, and you protect both the timeline and the team.
- A compliance-fluent, scrutiny-tested builder with experience in workforce development, government technology, or another highly regulated, compliance-heavy industry where oversight and stakeholder complexity are the norm.
How We Work
- High trust, high accountability
- We don't do anything the way it's always been done - and we're not interested in starting now
- Customer obsession - we exist to create raving fans
- We value action over perfection, and iterate to get better every day
Travel: Moderate during active state implementations, lighter between them. We don't fly for the sake of flying — but when the work needs you in the room, you're in the room.
