Location: San Francisco, CA
Compensation: $125,000 – $130,000 annually

Cargomatic is seeking a highly hands-on Senior Quality Assurance Engineer who thrives in fast-paced environments and passionate about delivering high-quality software. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being deeply involved in every stage of the software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis and test planning to execution, automation, and production validation.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and execute software quality assurance strategies for modern web and mobile applications, including React-based web interfaces and Android/iOS mobile platforms.
  • Perform a combination of manual and automated testing using industry-standard tools such as Selenium, Cypress, and Playwright for web, and Appium for mobile applications.
  • Ensure front-end and back-end functionality through end-to-end testing workflows.
  • Validate API endpoints and their integration using Postman and RestAssured.
  • Conduct performance benchmarking and load testing using tools like JMeter and k6 to evaluate application scalability under varying user loads. Identify, log, and track software defects using defect tracking tools (e.g., JIRA), and collaborate closely with developers and product teams to drive resolution.
  • Develop and maintain reusable test automation frameworks for Android apps using Appium and JavaScript/Java, with occasional iOS testing support.
  • Execute regression testing across various mobile devices and OS versions to ensure consistent behavior and compatibility. Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or CircleCI to facilitate faster and more reliable software releases.
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives to ensure alignment between QA activities and product goals.
  • Develop test plans, test cases, and traceability matrices to ensure comprehensive test coverage and compliance with software quality standards.
  • Review product requirements and technical design documents to provide timely and meaningful feedback.
  • Perform cross-browser and cross-device compatibility testing to ensure consistent user experience across environments.
  • Conduct mobile device compatibility testing across various screen sizes and operating systems.
  • Use Android Studio and Xcode for debugging and log analysis during mobile test cycles.
  • Conduct root cause analysis on production issues and contribute to preventive testing strategies.
  • Create test data and use SQL queries to validate backend data integrity.
  • Support user acceptance testing (UAT) and provide QA sign-off for production releases.
  • Develop internal documentation and QA best practices to ensure team knowledge retention and process improvements.
  • Train and mentor junior QA engineers in automation scripting and testing methodologies.
  • Must live within reasonable commuting distance from SF office and able to appear in office as required.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree or foreign degree equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and two (2) years of experience in the job offered or a related role.
  • Writing automated test scripts for UI and backend validation in React and Node.js applications using Selenium, Cypress, and Playwright;
  • Automated testing of Android and iOS mobile applications using Appium, with scripting in Java or JavaScript;
  • Mobile test execution using Android Studio and Xcode with real devices and emulators;
  • Validating RESTful API functionality and integration using Postman and RestAssured;
  • Performance and load testing using JMeter and k6 to assess system scalability under high traffic;
  • Defect tracking and bug management using tools such as JIRA; collaborating with developers to ensure timely resolution;
  • Integrating test automation into CI/CD workflows using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and CircleCI;
  • Working within Agile and Scrum frameworks to participate in sprints, reviews, and planning sessions;
  • Creating test strategies, writing test plans, and conducting exploratory and regression testing;
  • Writing and debugging test scripts using JavaScript and TypeScript. Conducting SQL-based data validation for backend testing;
  • Performing cross-browser testing using tools such as BrowserStack or Sauce Labs;
  • Documenting QA processes and supporting knowledge transfer to QA team members.
