Home Health Nurse- LPN/ RN

Lake Orion, Michigan, United States

Private Duty Nurse (RN/LPN) – 1:1 Home Care

Location:  Oxford / Lapeer Area
Setting: In-home, one-on-one care

Job Summary

Are you looking for a nursing role that prioritizes meaningful connection over the frantic pace of a hospital floor? We are seeking a dedicated and engaging Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

This is a unique opportunity to provide specialized clinical care while building a genuine bond with a patient who thrives on interaction and social engagement.

The Opportunity: Flexibility & Balance

Option 1: Oxford, MI – Engaging Care for a Young Adult

Support a bright, expressive 22-year-old female with Cerebral Palsy who thrives on social interaction.

  • The Schedule: Part-time/Flexible. Your choice of days M–F, 9:30 AM – 5:00 PM.

  • The Care: G-tube management, seizure monitoring (stable for 4 years), and respiratory support for restrictive lung disease (backup vent on-site).

  • Key Requirement: Must be comfortable performing straight catheterization several times per shift.

  • The Connection: She is non-verbal but communicates via eye gaze and head nods. She has the mindset of a 6–7 year old; we are looking for a nurse who will talk, play music, and truly engage with her.

Option 2: Lapeer, MI – Specialized Clinical Care

Provide essential 1:1 support for a 39-year-old male with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in a friendly, animal-loving household.

  • The Schedule: Multiple shifts available:

    • Days (6:00 AM – 7:00 PM): Sundays, Mondays, and Fridays.

    • Nights (9:00 PM – 5:00/6:00 AM): Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays.

  • The Care: High-acuity support including Trach, Vent, G-tube, and Catheter care. Morning shifts involve bathing, medication, and lifting/turning. Afternoon care is primarily focused on suctioning.

  • The Environment: A relaxed home with three friendly large dogs. Smoking is permitted on the front porch (with use of a baby monitor to maintain safety).

  • Downtime: When clinical needs are met, nurses are asked to tidy the patient’s room and sanitize equipment.

Clinical Responsibilities

Our patient is a resilient individual with a complex medical profile requiring a nurse who is confident, observant, and technically skilled. Key responsibilities include:

  • G-Tube Management: Routine feedings and medication administration via G-tube (placed since age 13).
  • Seizure Monitoring: While she has been seizure-free for four years, vigilant monitoring for epilepsy is required.
  • Respiratory Support: Care related to restrictive lung disease; a backup ventilator is kept in-home for safety.
  • Urological Care: Performance of straight catheterization several times daily (this is a core requirement of the role).
  • Positioning: Ensuring comfort and skin integrity related to scoliosis.
