Private Duty Nurse (RN/LPN) – 1:1 Home Care

Setting: In-home, one-on-one care

The Opportunity: Flexibility & Balance
Option 1: Oxford, MI – Engaging Care for a Young Adult
Support a bright, expressive 22-year-old female with Cerebral Palsy who thrives on social interaction.

The Schedule: Part-time/Flexible. Your choice of days M–F, 9:30 AM – 5:00 PM.

The Care: G-tube management, seizure monitoring (stable for 4 years), and respiratory support for restrictive lung disease (backup vent on-site).

Key Requirement: Must be comfortable performing straight catheterization several times per shift.

The Connection: She is non-verbal but communicates via eye gaze and head nods. She has the mindset of a 6–7 year old; we are looking for a nurse who will talk, play music, and truly engage with her.
Option 2: Lapeer, MI – Specialized Clinical Care
Provide essential 1:1 support for a 39-year-old male with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in a friendly, animal-loving household.

The Schedule: Multiple shifts available:

Days (6:00 AM – 7:00 PM): Sundays, Mondays, and Fridays.

Nights (9:00 PM – 5:00/6:00 AM): Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays.

The Care: High-acuity support including Trach, Vent, G-tube, and Catheter care. Morning shifts involve bathing, medication, and lifting/turning. Afternoon care is primarily focused on suctioning.

The Environment: A relaxed home with three friendly large dogs. Smoking is permitted on the front porch (with use of a baby monitor to maintain safety).

Downtime: When clinical needs are met, nurses are asked to tidy the patient’s room and sanitize equipment.
Clinical Responsibilities
Our patient is a resilient individual with a complex medical profile requiring a nurse who is confident, observant, and technically skilled. Key responsibilities include:
- G-Tube Management: Routine feedings and medication administration via G-tube (placed since age 13).
- Seizure Monitoring: While she has been seizure-free for four years, vigilant monitoring for epilepsy is required.
- Respiratory Support: Care related to restrictive lung disease; a backup ventilator is kept in-home for safety.
- Urological Care: Performance of straight catheterization several times daily (this is a core requirement of the role).
- Positioning: Ensuring comfort and skin integrity related to scoliosis.

Qualifications
- Active RN or LPN license in the state of Michigan
- Home care or private duty experience preferred (not required)
- Trach/vent experience a plus (training provided)
- Strong communication and critical thinking skills
