Medical Assistant Instructor (Part-Time)

Location: Centura College | 616 Denbigh Blvd, Newport News, VA 23608
Compensation: Up to $23/hour + $2,500 Sign-On Bonus
Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 8:00 AM–2:00 PM (occasional Fridays)

Are you an experienced Medical Assistant who enjoys sharing your knowledge and helping others succeed? Centura College is seeking a Part-Time Medical Assistant Instructor to help prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals.

No prior teaching experience required! We provide a 5-day paid instructor training program to help you transition from working in the medical field to teaching in the classroom.

This is an opportunity to put your clinical experience to work in a new way, share your passion for patient care, and make a lasting impact on students preparing for careers in healthcare.

What You'll Do

As a Medical Assistant Instructor, you'll provide hands-on instruction and classroom education to students enrolled in our Medical Assisting program. You'll help students build the clinical knowledge, technical skills, and professional confidence needed to succeed in healthcare settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging classroom and hands-on laboratory instruction in medical assisting concepts, procedures, and clinical skills.
  • Demonstrate proper clinical techniques, patient care practices, infection control procedures, and safe use of medical equipment.
  • Guide students through practical exercises and skills development to prepare them for real-world healthcare environments.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that encourages student participation and success.
  • Evaluate student performance, provide constructive feedback, and maintain accurate attendance, grades, and academic records.
  • Identify students who may need additional support and collaborate with campus leadership to improve student engagement and retention.
  • Assist with instructional materials, classroom preparation, and maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and required instructor training.
  • Follow institutional policies, safety standards, and applicable educational and regulatory requirements.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for an experienced healthcare professional who is passionate about medical assisting and interested in helping others develop the skills needed for successful careers.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on professional experience in medical assisting or a closely related clinical healthcare role.
  • Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) credential.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to obtain certification within six months of hire.
  • Strong knowledge of medical assisting practices, clinical procedures, patient care, and healthcare safety standards.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to explain clinical concepts clearly, demonstrate procedures, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn educational technology and student record systems.
  • Commitment to student success, professionalism, and maintaining a supportive learning environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience training, mentoring, or coaching medical assistants or other healthcare professionals.
  • Prior classroom, clinical instruction, or healthcare education experience.
  • Familiarity with student information systems, including CampusNexus.

No teaching experience required! Our paid instructor training program will help prepare you to confidently lead a classroom.
