Senior Manager, Logistics

United States

About Us:
Comfrt is one of the fastest-growing direct-to-consumer brands, dedicated to blending mental wellness, inclusivity, and elevated comfort into every piece we create. Our mission goes beyond clothing — we strive to build a community where everyone feels supported and seen.

About the Job:
The Senior Manager of Logistics owns the strategic and operational management of Comfrt's outbound carrier network and parcel optimization initiatives. This role leads national and regional parcel carriers, LTL, and final-mile carrier relationships through data-driven negotiations and multi-carrier strategy. By applying advanced analytics, carrier profitability modeling, zone-skipping strategies, and AI-powered optimization, this role reduces single-carrier risk, drives cost savings, and scales logistics operations efficiently. This role enables Comfrt's D2C expansion across new markets and channels while maintaining service excellence, sustainability commitments, and unit economics.

Outbound logistics is the final mile of Comfrt's customer promise and directly impacts both customer satisfaction and margins. This role translates strategic revenue and margin targets into practical carrier network design, rate contracts, and operational execution. By managing multi-carrier contingency, optimizing parcel economics through dimensional weight reduction, implementing sustainable packaging innovations, and maintaining service level commitments, this role builds a scalable operating model that supports rapid expansion without service or cost surprises. This role is critical to Comfrt's competitive positioning in D2C and multi-channel fulfillment markets.

Responsibilities:
Outbound Carrier Network Strategy & Multi-Carrier Optimization [40%]

  • Own relationships with national parcel carriers (UPS, FedEx, DHL), regional carriers, USPS, LTL providers, and emerging logistics partners; maintain quarterly business reviews aligned to carrier profitability models and performance scorecards
  • Lead strategic carrier rate negotiations and contract renewals; apply data analytics to evaluate carrier profitability, structure tiered pricing by service level/volume/zone/channel, and bring evidence-based negotiation data to the table
  • Develop and execute multi-carrier strategy to reduce single-carrier dependency; evaluate zone-skipping opportunities and regional carrier partnerships to create competitive tension and drive cost savings (15%+ year-over-year target)
  • Implement real-time tracking and exception management; proactively address service failures, damage claims, and billing discrepancies to maintain on-time delivery, low damage rates, and accurate cost accountability
  • Evaluate emerging carriers and alternative fulfillment models (regional operators, marketplace logistics, drop-ship partners) to support new market entry with optimized cost and service profiles
  • Build carrier compliance framework for documentation, proof of delivery, billing accuracy, and claims management; monitor regulatory changes and assess business impact
  • Partner with finance and legal on carrier contracts, insurance requirements, liability frameworks, and performance guarantees

Parcel & Package Optimization with Dimensional Weight & Sustainability Focus [35%]

  • Own end-to-end packaging strategy to minimize dimensional weight charges and maximize sustainability; lead cross-functional initiatives with product, merchandising, and operations to right-size packaging by category, destination, and service level
  • Drive packaging innovation programs: right-sizing, lightweight materials, alternative substrates, protective design innovations; measure ROI on cost savings and environmental impact (target: 10%+ reduction in dimensional weight charges)
  • Implement rate shopping and parcel optimization algorithms; leverage TMS, parcel engine, and OMS/WMS integration to route shipments through lowest-cost carriers while maintaining service commitments and customer expectations
  • Analyze and manage parcel data analytics: average weight per order, dimensional factors, package size distribution, cost per unit by service level/zone/carrier; identify and prioritize optimization opportunities
  • Develop package size selection rules and small package vs. LTL vs. freight decision trees; optimize service level and carrier selection based on shipment characteristics, destination, and cost modeling
  • Execute sustainability initiatives: drive adoption of carbon-neutral carriers, electric vehicle partnerships, and alternative fuel logistics providers; align outbound operations with Comfrt's ESG commitments and brand positioning
  • Leverage route optimization software and AI-powered recommendations to continuously improve parcel economics; stay current on emerging technologies for last-mile delivery optimization

Data Analytics, Business Intelligence & Cost Management [15%]

  • Build and maintain advanced outbound shipping scorecard with KPIs: on-time delivery rate, damage/exception rates, cost per unit (by service level/channel/zone/carrier), dimensional weight charges, carrier compliance metrics, customer satisfaction
  • Deliver weekly/monthly business reviews and dashboards using data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau); identify trends, root causes, and improvement opportunities; communicate trade-offs clearly to cross-functional leaders
  • Analyze outbound shipping costs by multiple dimensions (channel, category, destination, carrier); build predictive data models to forecast spend, support growth planning, and evaluate strategic scenarios
  • Apply data analytics and basic ML concepts to identify root causes in parcel network operations (e.g., regional allocation inefficiencies, rate structure optimization, consolidation opportunities, carrier performance gaps)
  • Lead process automation and system optimization in TMS, parcel management platforms, OMS/WMS integration, and billing systems; eliminate manual touchpoints and improve data accuracy
  • Manage outbound logistics budget; track carrier spend, packaging costs, dimensional weight charges, and accessorial fees; forecast and model spend for new launches, peak seasons, and growth scenarios

New Market & Channel Launch Support [10%]

  • Support new market entry launches (geographies, sales channels, international) by designing carrier network, establishing service level commitments, and defining logistics KPIs
  • Evaluate last-mile and final-mile requirements for new markets; assess carrier coverage, service levels, cost-to-serve, sustainability credentials, and regional expansion opportunities
  • Work with product and operations teams to set realistic ship date commitments and service level expectations based on carrier network capabilities; translate logistics constraints into product and pricing strategy
  • Stand up fulfillment flows for new channels (marketplace, B2B, subscription, international); optimize routing and carrier selection for each channel's unique economics and customer expectations

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of direct experience in outbound logistics, parcel optimization, carrier management, or supply chain at high-growth D2C, retail, or e-commerce; proven track record delivering 15%+ cost savings through carrier optimization
  • Deep expertise in small parcel operations: pricing structures, dimensional weight calculations, rate negotiation tactics, service level commitments, and performance management for UPS, FedEx, USPS, and regional carriers
  • Proficiency in data analytics and visualization tools: advanced Excel, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms; ability to build data models, identify patterns, and communicate insights to non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience with TMS (transportation management systems), parcel management platforms, OMS, WMS systems, and route optimization software; comfort learning new logistics technology platforms
  • Foundational AI and machine learning literacy; hands-on experience using or experimenting with generative AI tools; proactive mindset to evaluate emerging technologies for logistics optimization
  • Working knowledge of LTL, expedited, and international carrier operations; understanding of carrier routing, consolidation, load optimization, and alternative fulfillment models
  • Demonstrated expertise in packaging design, dimensional weight reduction, and sustainable packaging programs; experience driving measurable cost and environmental impact
  • Experience supporting rapid fulfillment expansion or new market launches; proven ability to design scalable carrier networks and establish new logistics relationships
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with product, operations, finance, merchandising, and sustainability teams; ability to communicate logistics trade-offs to senior stakeholders

Qualities:

  • Analytically rigorous: leverage data and analytics to make evidence-based decisions; communicate complex trade-offs and carrier profitability models clearly to diverse audiences
  • Commercially minded: balance cost optimization, service level commitments, and customer experience with an owner's perspective on unit economics and carrier profitability
  • Strategic relationship builder: develop strong partnerships with carrier teams and internal stakeholders; navigate competitive negotiations while maintaining positive long-term relationships; identify and evaluate emerging logistics providers
  • Problem solver: thrive in ambiguity when designing new carrier networks or optimizing complex operations; identify creative solutions for carrier diversification, zone-skipping, and cost reduction
  • Detail-oriented systems thinker: manage complex carrier contracts, rate tables, and operational requirements without errors; ensure billing accuracy and claims management; build scalable processes
  • Sustainability champion: demonstrate genuine commitment to reducing environmental impact through packaging innovation and carrier selection; stay current on ESG trends in logistics and e-commerce
  • Resilient and adaptable: manage peak season complexity, carrier disruptions, pricing pressures, and service failures with composure; proactively address market changes and carrier network challenges
  • Tech-forward innovator: curious about logistics innovation, emerging delivery models, and AI/ML applications; eager to experiment with new technologies and stay current on industry trends and best practices

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
