About the Team

The Clumio Cloud Engineering team designs, builds, and operates the cloud infrastructure and foundational services that power Clumio’s SaaS platform. The team focuses on delivering secure, reliable, and scalable cloud environments that support a mission-critical data protection service. In this context, infrastructure reliability, operational efficiency, and security are essential requirements rather than optional capabilities.

The team builds cloud-native infrastructure and automation that enable services to scale dynamically with workload demands. This includes systems for provisioning, deployment, observability, and incident response that support large-scale, distributed workloads. By emphasizing automation and standardized operational practices, Cloud Engineering reduces complexity and enables engineering teams to operate services efficiently at scale.

Cloud Engineering operates a mature production environment on AWS and works closely with platform and application teams to support the ongoing evolution of Clumio’s architecture. As Clumio expands into multi-cloud environments including GCP and Azure, the team plays a central role in extending infrastructure patterns, security models, and operational tooling across diverse cloud ecosystems.

Role Overview

As a Principal Engineer on the Clumio Cloud Engineering team, you serve as a technical leader for the cloud infrastructure and foundational services that power Clumio’s SaaS platform. Reporting to the Engineering Director, this role combines deep hands-on engineering with architectural leadership, focusing on systems that are critical to reliability, security, and operational scalability.

You own and drive cross-cutting technical initiatives that span multiple infrastructure services and define foundational cloud capabilities. This includes designing and evolving cloud-native and multi-cloud infrastructure abstractions, including standardized provisioning, deployment, and operational tooling, making architectural decisions that balance correctness, cost, scalability, and operational simplicity, and leading complex technical projects from problem definition through production deployment. You set technical direction for the team, ensuring architectural intent is reflected in production-quality implementations.

In this role, you remain deeply hands-on, spending a significant portion of your time writing and reviewing code, solving complex infrastructure problems, and participating in production operations. You work closely with the Engineering Director and partner with Senior Engineers to guide design decisions, mentor engineers, and establish infrastructure patterns that enable the platform to scale across multiple cloud environments.

Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional experience in software engineering, cloud infrastructure, or site reliability engineering, including significant ownership of complex production systems.
  • Proven experience leading ambiguous, high-impact technical initiatives from problem definition through production delivery.
  • Strong ability to translate business, customer, and operational needs into clear technical requirements and system designs.
  • Deep experience designing and operating distributed or cloud-native systems, with a strong focus on reliability, security, operability, and cost efficiency.
  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code, container orchestration, and deployment automation (e.g., Terraform, Kubernetes).
  • Experience building and operating CI/CD pipelines and production observability systems.
  • Experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Working knowledge of English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience serving as the senior technical owner for a team or infrastructure platform while remaining hands-on.
  • Strong understanding of secure system design principles, including identity and access management, encryption, and secure handling of sensitive data.
  • Experience mentoring senior engineers and shaping technical direction in collaboration with engineering and product leadership.

You’ll Love Working Here Because ...

  • Collaborate with amazing, driven, and supportive team members.
  • Enjoy continuous professional growth through product training, development programs, and clear career pathways.
  • Work on high-impact, large-scale cloud data protection systems used by global enterprises.
