Freelance Senior Designer

Calgary

As a Freelance Senior Designer, you will develop breakthrough creative concepts that translate visually across interactive platforms for web-based marketing initiatives and product launches. You're an original thinker and collaborative leader—matching strategic direction with elegant design solutions for our client's homepage and other platforms. You'll work closely with creative and technical disciplines while maintaining strong brand principles and systematic design rationale. Most importantly, you possess expert-level proficiency in design applications and prototyping tools, with exceptional attention to detail.

Contract Details: 

  • This position is full-time onsite requiring 5 days per week presence at our Calgary office.
  • The contract will run from May 4 through September 25.

You Will:

  • Design solutions that meet or exceed strategic objectives for our client
  • Create highly usable interface solutions focused on user experience
  • Design mood boards, storyboards, interactive page layouts, site grids, interface demos, photo retouching and enhancements, and animated GIFs
  • Create original designs that align to project goals, creative direction, fluid templates, and standards
  • Craft story-driven campaigns across multiple mediums while elevating the brand
  • Distill complex asks into clear, elegant, and focused messaging
  • Create simple prototypes that convey preferred states, motion, and behaviours for interactive concepts
  • Collaborate with Art Directors, ACDs, and the larger project team to explore concepts and iterate on design layouts
  • Anticipate and solve for potential design challenges and existing conditions
  • Build and maintain team rapport with the creative team, technology, account managers, producers, and our client
  • Visualize and verbalize ideas clearly to the team and our client

You Have:

  • 6+ years of relevant interactive design experience
  • Strong design portfolio demonstrating 2+ years of design and interactive work
  • Highly proficient in formal design elements: typography, layout, balance, hierarchy, proportion, rhythm, emphasis, and unity
  • Expert-level proficiency in Sketch and Photoshop, including intelligent file organization for design iteration and web production
  • Solid working knowledge of Mac OS, Photoshop, and Illustrator
  • Understanding of the strengths and limitations of Flash, After Effects, QuickTime, Director, and ImageReady
  • Understanding of front-end web and mobile development, including HTML, CSS, iOS, and other technologies
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills across internal teams and with both creative and technical audiences
  • Ability to thrive in a challenging, fast-paced creative workplace and deliver quality design at high volume in tight timeframes
  • Proven aptitude for quick creative thinking with acute attention to detail within demanding deadlines
  • Ability to articulate creative ideas clearly and persuasively
  • Reliable judgment to recognize when work may be off track and initiative to collaborate with others to find solutions
  • Diligent, flexible, resourceful, and independent with a strong work ethic
  • Developed and diverse communication skills
