About the Opportunity: 

Publishing Assistant | $50,000-$55,000

  • David Zwirner Books, the publishing imprint of David Zwirner, is seeking a Publishing Assistant to work alongside our publishing team during a maternity leave and location transition of the NYC bookstore. The ideal candidate will be focused and hardworking, with excellent attention to detail, and a demonstrated interest in publishing and contemporary art. Superior communication skills, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and a collaborative, efficient work style are required. This fast-paced role includes responsibilities related to both the production and sales of our publications. The position is expected to uphold the David Zwirner standards, policies, and procedures. Please note that this role requires significant physical labor, including lifting and carrying heavy books and relocating them between the store and receiving locations. 
  • Schedule and Hours: Monday–Friday, 10 AM–6 PM, with occasional extra hours for events.

What you'll do:

  • Maintain the book product pages on the website and managing updates
  • Fulfillment of all e-commerce orders physically and through Shopify: create and print shipping labels, package and fulfill orders, and manage USPS and UPS pick-ups 
  • Act as main liaison between the gallery’s sales team and customer service requests 
  • Staff book events and book fairs as needed
  • Order management of new inventory and inventory transfers
  • Liaise with front desk teams globally on inventory and needs for selling and gifting, support coordination of inventory orders and shipments for global exhibitions
  • Draft and share information guides on related books for exhibitions on view
  • Assist distribution team with drafting marketing copy for seasonal sales catalogues
  • Conduct image research, acquire high-res image files, and clear photography and artwork reproduction rights for all book projects
  • Research, confirm, and format photography credits, collection lines, and image and artwork captions for all books

What we would like you to have:

  • 1+ years experience in a gallery or retail space, preferably within spaces associated with the arts or books
  • Working knowledge of publishing and the arts
  • Strong commitment to artists and the artistic program of the gallery
  • A collaborative and positive attitude with an eagerness to take on new challenges
