About the Opportunity:
David Zwirner seeks a full-time Assistant Registrar for its Paris gallery. Qualified candidates should be highly personable, proactive, motivated, and have strong communication skills. Previous experience at a gallery, museum, or comparable arts organization would be appreciated.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Transport & Customs:
○ Manage on-site gallery and warehouse inventory - working closely with rest of department and techs to put together lists.
○ Assist in coordinating international and domestic shipping of artworks for exhibitions, inventory, art fairs, and clients.
○ Assist on consolidated shipments between London and New York.
○ Coordinate local transports.
○ Oversee customs paperwork, release/receipt documentation, and organizing and filing shipping paperwork.
○ Send weekly artwork arrival/departure list for staff meeting, add movements to calendar.
○ Check packing spec with techs and the rest of the department prior to moving artworks.
○ Work closely with Technicians on all movements, packing, and viewing room installs.
○ Obtain and upload customs and shipping paperwork to DZDB Records, and update accordingly on Compta matière.
- Inventory & Database management:
○ Inbook new works for sales and reference into DZDB following artist guidelines and protocols; confirm all artwork details, including signature, and take images of front and back of artworks on inbooking.
○ Ensure all works are correctly labelled following labelling guidelines.
○ Update location and artworks and packing/condition info in DZDB.
○ Ensure WOV details and exhibited works captions are accurate and complete before release.
○ Complete regular walk-through audits, with technicians, of inventory on and off site.
○ Condition check artworks on unpacking and on packing.
○ Complete condition reports and upload to database records and Egnyte.
○ Refer condition issues to more senior staff members to organize repairs, in coordination with Registration teams.
○ Contact professional conservators for conservation/condition reports when requested by sales.
○ Issue client reports under the direction of department members.
○ File hard copy and digital copies of all reports including images.
○ Liaise with departments in NY to source reports when necessary.
What we would like you to have:
- Knowledge of proper handling and storage procedures for a variety of media.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Working knowledge of Macintosh OS, as well as familiarity with art database systems.
- A detail-oriented, take-ownership approach, self-organization, and the ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and projects.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A positive, helpful attitude.
