THE ROLE:
The Director, Product Design at DEPT® is a visionary leader and a foundational pillar of our business strategy, as well as a driver of growth. Strategic thinking is your playground, and you thrive by being hands-on across multiple projects while acting as a relentless advocate for both form and function. You work across the full design spectrum, spanning UX, UI, and high-level visual craft, to create engaging, emotionally compelling, and novel experiences that result in pragmatic, effective digital products.
You are the bridge between user needs and business goals, ensuring that every feature we launch delivers measurable value from end to end. In this role, you elevate the standard of how people interact with technology by guiding cross-functional teams toward clear outcomes and partnering closely with clients to deliver on strategic ambitions. Your leadership shows up in how work is shaped, decisions are made, and complex problems are translated into cohesive, world-class experiences across platforms.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Lead cross-functional teams to create world-class digital experiences for global businesses and brands
- Translate business goals and brand strategy into clear, actionable experience strategies and design principles
- Drive client presentations and workshops to get alignment, translate complex business and user goals into actionable design strategies, and guide teams toward clear experience outcomes
- Partner closely with internal strategy and creative teams to influence decision-making, define actionable next steps, and establish effective ways of working across disciplines
- Oversee the end-to-end strategic vision and execution of high-quality user journeys, IA, wireframes, and content frameworks across all digital interfaces
- Build and leverage a library of customer experience artifacts to effectively express vision and highlight design opportunities for the team and the client
- Independently deliver innovative solutions to complex problems
- Lead the design of large and complex systems of interactions across multiple projects, contributing to and guiding all documentation produced by the project team
- Inspire the client, as well as your team, with breakthrough thinking and concepts
- Bring business strategy to creative execution to drive results and build impactful relationships
- Foster a culture of creativity, experimentation, and growth through mentorship, collaboration, and constructive critique
- Be a leader, putting the client and your team before yourself
- Identify opportunities to connect the team to culture in an effort to deepen our thinking and output
- Understand client feedback and discern what's important
- Confidence and talent when it comes to presenting to stakeholders at all levels
- Strong knowledge of visual design, user-centered experience design, interaction design, brand development, and the creative process
- Ability to lead internal teams with strategic vision and creative inspiration
- An entrepreneurial and independent spirit
- A diverse sense of taste with the knowledge necessary to apply to various challenges
- Insights and perspectives when it comes to hiring talent
- Understanding how to grow and nurture world-class design talent

WHAT YOU BRING:
- 8+ years experience in an agency or startup environment.
- Demonstrates excellent leadership, strategic vision, and creative inspiration to foster a cohesive and motivated team from diverse backgrounds and disciplines, with strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Strong knowledge of visual design, user-centered experience design, interaction design, brand development, and the creative process.
- A love for typography, interaction, traditional graphic design, and technology.
- Strong skills in modern design and prototyping tools.
- A solid point of view and a collaborative nature.
- Ability to be self-motivated to learn and stay current with emerging technologies, as well as the ability to teach others.
- An open and curious mind in all areas of creative and design work and the ability to remain positive even in the most challenging of situations.
- Possesses strategic thinking and high-level problem-solving abilities to assess and address current and future company needs.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate information, whether technical or non-technical, to clients and employees clearly and concisely.
- Excellent organizational skills and a very high level of attention to detail, including tracking, recording, documenting, and saving all information, processes, and procedures, and searching for and proposing process efficiencies.
- Excellent public speaking skills with the ability to develop plans, build presentations, and comfortably present them professionally and effectively to those outside and within the organization.
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude even in the most challenging of situations.
- Dedicates time to understand the requested task, or feedback and decisions being made. Isn’t afraid to ask questions to ensure clarity for informed decision-making.
- Comfort navigating a complex organization with multiple stakeholders.
- Communicates effectively one-on-one and in large groups.
- Ability to travel regularly for domestic and international travel to maintain new business initiatives and build client relationships.
TAKE INTO ACCOUNT:
- You will have to communicate with your team members abroad, therefore fluency in English and excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) are a must for this role.
