Controls Manager
About the Role:
We are seeking a hands-on and experienced Manager of Controls to establish and lead the Controls team. This role will focus on developing the team, implementing processes, and driving the execution of controls engineering solutions for our projects, and will work very closely with the Electrical Engineering Team and Software Team to ensure seamless integration of projects for our customers. The Manager of Controls will play a critical role in overseeing all aspects of controls engineering, from hardware and software development to system integration, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
In this role you will:
- Build, manage, and mentor a team of controls engineers and software developers, fostering a collaborative and growth-focused environment.
- Provide technical guidance and training to support the professional development of the team.
- Implement best practices, processes, and tools for the design, development, testing, and commissioning of control systems, and ensure those processes are seamlessly integrated with those processes those of our Electrical Engineering, Software, and other teams.
- Drive innovation in automation and system integration to optimize material handling solutions.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to align departmental goals with business objectives.
- Oversee the design, programming, and commissioning of PLC-based control systems for conveyors, sorters, and other material handling equipment.
- Participate (or support your team in participating) in client meetings to gather requirements and ensure expectations are met throughout the project lifecycle.
- Serve as the technical SME and escalation point for client discussions related to controls systems, including scoping and integration.
- Evaluate hardware and software solutions, ensuring that technologies meet the company’s needs and project specifications.
- Tackle other items required by the business as you grow this department.
We’re excited about you because:
- You have a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field.
- You have 8+ years of experience in controls engineering in the material handling, distribution, or fulfillment industry, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role.
- You have demonstrated experience in designing and implementing control systems for automated material handling systems, including conveyors robotics, and many of the following areas: ASRS, goods to person, palletizing systems, print and apply, sortation, integration with WCS/WES, etc.
- You’ve got strong expertise in PLC programming, HMI, SCADA systems, and industrial networking.
- You’re able to travel around 20% of the time, potentially more as you are training and building your team.
- You possess excellent project management skills with a proven ability to deliver projects on time and within budget.
- You demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence at multiple levels within the organization.
- You’re able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing demands.
