
CNC Programmer

Purpose
This role performs all aspects of the machining workflow including process design, fixture design & fabrication, 5-axis CNC programming, machining, inspection, and general shop activities. This position involves constructing suspension, powertrain, and chassis components for automotive, aerospace, and defense vehicles, contributing to the maturation of development programs. As the machining technical expert, the CNC Programmer will innovate new machining-related technologies with the team and guide those innovations through the patent process.
The Role
- Execute advanced machining projects for the automotive, aerospace, and additive manufacturing industries.
- Utilize CAM (Siemens NX) to produce 5-axis milling programs for first article parts and production runs.
- Analyze new parts to develop machining strategies, select work-holding concepts, and provide Design for Manufacturability (DFM) recommendations.
- Program, verify, and simulate 3+2 and 5-axis milling operations to manufacture suspension, powertrain, and chassis components.
- Demonstrated expertise with Siemens and Heidenhain controllers is preferred.
- Program vertical, horizontal, trunnion, and gantry-style machines.
- Design work-holding solutions for both R&D and high-rate production needs using CAD (NX).
- Invent and implement novel fabrication techniques, contributing to new manufacturing technologies.
- Offer on-floor support for first article components and assist in general shop activities.
- Engage in vehicle design processes, providing manufacturing insights for new parts and programs.
- Interpret engineering drawings and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
- Develop innovative machining and work-holding solutions related to additive manufacturing.
- Participate in testing, validating, and refining concepts, and assist in the patent process.
- Ensure strict adherence to MES
Basic Qualifications
- Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls
- Proficient in CNC programming and machining, with a strong focus on 5-axis milling.
- Proficient in complex 5-axis programming, setup, and operation, including setting dynamic work offsets.
- Strong understanding of machining processes, materials, and tooling.
- Familiarity with safety protocols and best practices in a machine shop environment.
Skills:
- Strong programming and CAM skills (Siemens NX preferred).
- Proficient in CAD modeling and setup design.
- Expertise in creating machining strategies for first article parts.
- In-depth knowledge of CNC machine operation, processes, best practices, and maintenance.
- Skilled in designing fixtures using industry best practices.
- Capable of performing light fabrication, using hand tools, and operating manual mills/lathes.
- Proficient in using metrology tools, reading technical drawings, and applying GD&T.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficient in Siemens NX CAD/CAM.
- Experience with pallet systems.
- Experience with Siemens and Heidenhain controllers preferred.
- General understanding of automotive and aerospace systems
Work Environment
- Shop floor: machine operation, handling parts, exposure to high noise levels, machine electrical systems, and varying temperature conditions.
- Office: desk work, programming, and design tasks.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to bend, reach, lift to 50 lbs., and remain standing for extended periods.
Onsite skills demonstration required.
Pay Range
$55 - $80 USD
