Purpose
We are seeking a skilled Aircraft and Automotive Surface Finisher to join our team. The successful candidate will specialize in hand surfacing and blending of additively manufactured aluminum parts. This role is crucial in ensuring the highest quality surface finish for our Aerospace and Automotive components, which include organic structures that require meticulous attention to detail. The ideal candidate will have experience in metallic materials (primarily Aluminum), with a strong focus on achieving ready-to-paint finishes.
The Role
Surface Preparation and Finishing:
- Hand surfacing and blending imperfections on Additively Manufactured aluminum parts.
- Preparation of surfaces to meet high-quality standards for raw, painted, and coated finishes.
- Ensuring seamless blending and transitions on organic structures and complex geometries.
Quality Control and Standards:
- Inspect parts for surface defects, ensuring they meet company and industry standards.
- Collaborate with the quality control team to address any identified issues and implement corrective actions.
Material Handling and Knowledge:
- Work with metallic materials and understand the nuances of different coatings.
- Utilize specialized tools and equipment for sanding, polishing, and finishing surfaces.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with the design, engineering, and production teams to understand project requirements and deliver high-quality surfaces.
- Provide feedback and suggestions for process improvements and material selections.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of work performed, including measurements, processes, and materials used.
- Report any issues or challenges encountered during the surfacing process to the appropriate teams.
Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory standards
- Participate in safety training and contribute to a culture of continuous safety improvement.
Basic Qualifications
- Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls
- Proven experience in surface finishing, particularly with aluminum parts in the automotive or aerospace industry.
- Strong skills in hand surfacing, blending, and finishing techniques.
- Attention to detail and a keen eye for aesthetics and quality.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certification is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in surfacing a variety of additively manufactured materials.
- Experience with aircraft/automotive paint processes is highly preferred.
Work Environment
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
- Willingness to work in a manufacturing environment.
- Exposure to manufacturing noise levels
Pay Range
$26 - $35 USD
