Head of Fraud (Hybrid)

About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Head of Fraud to lead our comprehensive fraud prevention, detection, and response strategies across all Enova products and platforms. Reporting to a senior leader within our Analytics organization, this role is critical to protecting our customers and our business from sophisticated fraud threats. You will lead both the fraud analytics and fraud operations teams, driving cross functional initiatives to prevent and mitigate fraud both at pre and post funding stages. You will be a strategic leader, driving innovation in fraud analytics and operations, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and collaborating across the organization to maintain a secure and trustworthy financial ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership & Vision:
- Develop and execute a cutting-edge fraud strategy that aligns with Enova's rapid growth and diverse product offerings, leveraging advanced analytics and technology.
- Anticipate and proactively address emerging fraud threats, industry trends, and regulatory changes, continuously adapting our fraud framework.
- Serve as the primary subject matter expert and thought leader on fraud to senior leadership, the Board, and external partners.
- Advanced Analytics & System Optimization:
- Oversee the development, implementation, and ongoing optimization of sophisticated fraud detection models (e.g., machine learning, artificial intelligence) and proprietary rules engines.
- Drive continuous improvement in fraud prevention technologies, collaborating with engineering and product teams to integrate and enhance our internal platforms.
- Utilize advanced data analytics to identify fraud patterns, predict future risks, and measure the effectiveness of fraud mitigation strategies, providing actionable insights.
- Operational Excellence & Investigation:
- Lead and optimize end-to-end fraud operations, from application screening and transaction monitoring to complex investigations and chargeback management.
- Establish best-in-class fraud investigation processes, ensuring timely, efficient, and thorough resolution of suspicious activities.
- Develop and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) for fraud losses, recovery rates, and operational efficiency, driving accountability and performance.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of fraud analysts, data scientists, and operations specialists.
- Foster a collaborative, data-driven, and growth-oriented team environment, encouraging innovation and continuous learning.
- Provide coaching, development opportunities, and performance management to empower your team.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Partner closely with our world-class Analytics, Product, Engineering, and Operations teams to embed fraud prevention seamlessly into product design and customer journeys.
- Collaborate with Legal and Compliance to ensure adherence to all relevant financial regulations and industry best practices.
- Engage with industry consortia and third-party vendors to share intelligence and enhance collective fraud prevention efforts.
- Risk & P&L Management:
- Integrate fraud risk management into the broader enterprise risk framework, advising on risk appetite and mitigation strategies.
- Potentially hold P&L accountability for fraud-related losses and prevention costs, demonstrating a clear impact on financial performance.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Finance, Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering) or a related discipline. Master's degree or MBA preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in fraud management within the FinTech or online lending space, with a proven track record of innovation and impact.
- Deep expertise in various fraud typologies impacting online financial services (e.g., synthetic identity, account takeover, payments fraud, first-party fraud).
- Strong proficiency in leveraging advanced analytics, machine learning, and data science techniques for fraud detection and prevention.
- Demonstrated ability to build, scale, and optimize fraud systems and operations in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders across all levels.
- Strong understanding of relevant regulatory requirements and compliance frameworks.
- Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) or other relevant certifications are a plus.
Compensation:
The budgeted annual salary range for this position is $160,000 to $225,000. Actual annual salary will be determined based on qualifications, skills, experience, and level assessed during the hiring process and may fall outside of the range shown. Additional compensation for this role may include a bonus. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in Company benefits, described in more detail here.
