Senior Legal Counsel APAC

Hong Kong

In this role you will lead and expand our legal function across the Asia-Pacific region, with a primary focus on the financial ecosystem including digital assets and commercial, and corporate law. You will be responsible for steering and coordinating local external counsel, ensuring legal compliance, and supporting the business’s growth ambitions in APAC. This is a strategic role providing guidance on all legal related topics, reporting to the local CEO and cross reporting to the Global Head of Legal in Amsterdam. The individual will be expected to collaborate closely with global and regional teams on various initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Digital Assets: Advise on all legal aspects of digital asset initiatives, collaborating with compliance in regulatory developments and licensing, and transactional matters.
  • Commercial Contract Negotiation and Documentation: Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial contracts, including broker agreements, vendor contracts, commercial contracts.
  • Corporate Governance: Oversee corporate governance, data protection and group entity matters.
  • Steering Local Counsel: Select, instruct, and manage local external counsel across APAC jurisdictions, ensuring high-quality, business-aligned legal advice.
  • Strategic Projects: Support cross-border projects, M&A, and new market entries, working with business, compliance, and operations teams.
  • Collaboration: Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders (Trading, Digital Assets, Technology, Risk, Compliance, Finance, Tax, Business Development) and external partners.
  • Policy & Process: Develop and implement legal policies, templates, and best practices tailored to the APAC region.

Core Skills & Experience

  • Qualified lawyer with 8+ years PQE in a major common law jurisdiction.
  • Proven legal expertise in multiple practice areas, such as financial markets, commercial and corporate, with a keen interest in digital assets and the development of the industry. Experience in dealing with financial regulators is preferred.
  • Ability and network to manage and coordinate local external counsel across multiple APAC jurisdictions.
  • Excellent drafting, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficient in both spoken and written English and Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin).
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, international environment.

  • In-depth sessions on our governance, risk, compliance, legal, finance, technology, and trading operations.
  • Opportunities to build relationships with global and regional teams.
