There sure are many manager types out there, but the Engineering Manager, a former developer, is the best placed to understand other developers on a natural level. This role is about representing the Software Engineers in the assigned teams, as well as managing them and developing them to perform in a fun and complex environment. It’s about filling people with a sense of duty as well as sparking interest to improve our intricate systems. It’s about pushing engineers to come up with bold ideas as well as keeping a tight grip on the handbrake just in case. We all know there are no boring days around Software and managing Software Engineers is the definition of fun.
What your journey will look like: (Responsibilities)
Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop two high-performing teams of engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, learning, and accountability.
- Provide coaching and career development support, helping engineers grow their technical skills and achieve professional goals.
- Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and team meetings to provide guidance and foster an open, inclusive team environment.
Technical Strategy and Execution:
- Collaborate with Product Management, Design, and other stakeholders to define the engineering roadmap, setting clear priorities and goals.
- Drive project planning and execution, ensuring the team delivers high-quality work on time and within scope.
- Maintain a deep understanding of the technical stack and guide the team in making technical decisions that align with long-term company objectives.
Technical Leadership and Guidance:
- Act as a technical advisor, assisting team members with complex problems and providing technical direction on projects.
- Collaborate with and facilitate IC collaboration with architects and senior engineers to ensure solutions are scalable, robust, and adhere to the company’s technical standards.
- Stay up-to-date on emerging technologies and industry trends to support ongoing innovation and ensure competitive advantage.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams (Product, Design, QA, and Operations) to align technical deliverables with business objectives.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing updates on project progress, risks, and mitigation strategies.
- Ensure engineering team efforts are well-coordinated with overall product timelines, deadlines, and organizational priorities.
What to pack for this trip: (Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Advanced degrees or certifications in Engineering, Management, or related fields are a plus.
- 5+ years of engineering experience with a proven track record of delivering scalable software solutions.
- 2+ years in a management or leadership role, with experience in team building, coaching, and developing engineers.
- Demonstrated experience in project management, resource planning, and leading cross-functional engineering teams.
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Kanban) and engineering best practices.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages in the .Net Development Stack
- Experience with cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and modern development tools (CI/CD, version control, automated testing).
- Fluency and proficiency in both Spanish and English
