Geotab is seeking a Policy and Government Affairs Lead who will serve as a primary source of thought leadership and insight on matters relating to technology policy and government affairs. This role involves organizing and owning key projects and initiatives relating to laws and regulations affecting Artificial Intelligence, telecommunications, data residency, and FAR/DFAR compliance. What you'll do:
As a Policy and Government Affairs Lead, your key area of responsibility will be ensuring that NSS solutions are tailored to satisfy regulatory requirements, developing policies in response to industry factors, and informing government policy positions. You will be responsible for responding to government requests for information, developing US Federal and State government affairs plans, and managing their execution. You will need to work closely with Geotab’s Legal, Revenue Generation, Strategic Communications, and NSS Product Management teams, as well as communicate with external vendors, lobbyists, and industry actors.
To be successful in this role you will be a self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset who is comfortable in a flat organization and possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills. In addition, the successful candidate will have strong analytical and relationship-building skills with an ability to identify needs, develop effective solutions, and manage complex legislative and regulatory projects through completion.
How you'll make an impact:
- Collaborate with other internal stakeholders, such as leaders from Legal, Revenue Generation, and Strategic Communications, this position provides direct expertise on matters relating to our business.

Support the NSS Product Manager and product and feature project teams by providing subject matter expertise relating to NSS products and features; such expertise may include that relating to Artificial Intelligence, telecommunications and satellite communications, data residency and access, FAR and DFAR compliance, and encryption.

Support US Legislative Agenda. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to calibrate and coordinate our legislative objectives while remaining sensitive to other ecosystem players (especially OEM). Improve synergy with strategic communications colleagues by participating in joint projects as required.

Assist in the design of strategic communications to preserve and enhance Geotab’s reputation with external stakeholders and US congressional decision makers.

Develop and deploy internal regulatory expertise. Track the developments and announcements from U.S. regulatory authorities, such as the FCC, government agencies, legislative updates regarding cybersecurity and telecom regulations.

Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including Legal professionals who specialize in telecommunications law and international trade, to develop and maintain specific insights, based on the current regulatory climate, all in support of NSS products and features. Ensure long term supply chain compliance. Timely identify actionable supply chain regulatory dependencies and requirements.
What you'll bring to the role:
- 5 - 8 years of experience in CA, US, and EU legal/regulatory processes and Legislative/Executive branch administrative rule-making.

Working with a channel/reseller/partner driven sales organization is an asset.

Working within a technical/engineering organization an asset.

Legislative and Executive government affairs expertise required.

Deep understanding of technology laws and regulations required.

Comfortable familiarity with Artificial Intelligence tools required.

Comfortable managing spreadsheets, google sheets, data trends and data lookups.

Excellent communication skills - verbal and written.

Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to problem-solve to well-judged decisions.

A strong team-player with the ability to engage with all levels of the organization.

Technical competence using software programs, including, but not limited to, Google Suite for business (Sheets, Docs, Slides).

Entrepreneurial mindset and comfortable in a flat organization.
