As our Aging in Place Program grows, we’re looking for a hands-on Home Modification Specialist to work closely with our Program Director who is a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist and Occupational Therapy Assistant with decades of experience helping adults live healthy, happy, and safe lives at home. Givens Communities' is looking for a full-time Home Modification Specialist to join our Aging in Place team within our Home First department. As a Home Modification Specialist, you will collaborate with the Aging in Place Program Director to assess community members and their home environments, making recommendations that will enable and empower them to live independently, comfortably, and safely at home. This role requires both strong technical skills and excellent communication abilities. This position must be able to install equipment and effectively coordinate with clients, vendors, and internal teams. This role primarily supports residents at our two Life Plan Communities in Black Mountain and Asheville, with occasional travel to support clients across the greater WNC area.
What you'll do:
- Collaborate with the Aging in Place Program Director to assess an individual’s abilities, challenges and needs in a holistic and purpose driven way, recommending updates that will help them live independently, safely and comfortably
- Independently install recommended safety equipment with a strong understanding of both mechanical and basic electrical needs (this could include installation of grab bars, toilet safety frames, low profile beds, bidets etc.)
- Oversee purchasing of durable medical equipment and supplies as needed, in coordination with the Aging in Place Program Director
- Educate community members on proper use of installed durable medical equipment and other recommendations, with support from the Aging in Place Director
- Coordinate and monitor stockroom and inventory
- Identify furnishings, equipment, and techniques that help enhance the aging experience
- Work proactively to schedule appointments for assessments and installation, always adhering to established rates and procedures
- Share ideas and feedback related to Aging in Place activities to help the program grow
- Perform any other duties and/or tasks that may be assigned on an as-needed basis by an authorized supervisor
What you'll need:
- Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) through the National Association of Home Builder is highly desirable, but not required
- Previous experience as a handy worker or related career required, with ability to support implementation and installation of equipment and home modifications such as grab bars, bidets etc.
- Knowledge of aging process and correct use of DME highly desired
- Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver's License
Compensation is $26.00 - $28.00 per hour, based on background and experience, and includes our comprehensive benefits package.
