
Technical Writer
General Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Product Education, the Technical Writer is responsible for creating high-quality, customer-facing product documentation for a SaaS company in the healthcare industry. This includes online product help content, user guides, job aids, product release notes, and, as needed, implementation and technical integration guides.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator with exceptional written and spoken English skills, capable of explaining complex concepts clearly and concisely. This person is proactive, self-directed, and comfortable working independently, while also collaborating with product managers, product marketers, developers, QA engineers and implementation teams. The Technical Writer creates content that connects product functionality to customer goals and outcomes. This role also leverages AI tools and structured content practices to enhance quality, scalability, and readiness for ingestion by large language models, as our documentation evolves toward an AI-ready architecture.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrate excellent fluency in spoken and written English with precise grammar and clarity
- Write and edit high-quality online Help, product guides, release notes and job aids for assigned product/solution areas
- Write content that clearly communicates how to use product features and why they add value for different roles and workflows
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to research, interview, and gather technical and background information
- Manage and prioritize multiple deliverables and SLAs effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Participate in product design reviews to ensure usability and alignment between product functionality and documentation
- Use AI writing assistants (e.g. Grammarly, ChatGPT, or similar) to draft, refine and optimize content for clarity, tone and grammar
- Apply AI and structured content techniques (such as metadata tagging or DITA topic modeling) to make documentation more searchable, modular, and machine-readable
Key Skills/Competencies
- Excellent command of English grammar, syntax and professional tone
- Strong organizational and self-management skills with minimal supervision
- Experience using:
- Help Authoring Tools (MadCap Flare preferred)
- Collaboration Tools (Confluence, JIRA, Aha, Slack, MS-Teams)
- Screen capture and diagramming tools (SnagIt, Lucidchart, Visio)
- Standard Windows-based applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel
- Ability to structure and maintain documentation libraries that scale across product lines
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail and curiosity about new tools and technologies
Required Education, Certifications, and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, or a related field
- 3 to 5 years of experience writing software documentation for SaaS or enterprise products
- Preferable experience writing task- and value-focused content that helps users understand both how and why to use product features effectively
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical information info simple, customer-focused language
- Proven ability to take ownership of work and deliver high-quality results independently
Preferred Qualifications
- eCommerce or web-based application experience
- Healthcare industry, supply chain, or purchasing experience preferred but not required
