Meet the team:
The Compute Platform team as a part of Software Foundations and Architecture is responsible for building and maintaining the infrastructure that enables Glydways to track, build, deploy and operate our software. From the build system everyone uses, to the tools used to submit and deploy changes, to the compute infrastructure they use to operate it - we support the entire development and operational experience. The Compute Platform team forges the tools that empower the entire software engineering organization while working with engineers throughout the company.
Roles & Responsibilities:
As part of this role you’ll be responsible for:
- Perform physical hardware configuration, racking, cabling, and routine maintenance for onsite compute clusters. Troubleshoot and resolve physical server or network appliance issues to ensure high availability for customer deployments.
- Assist the team in supporting onsite customer deployments and demonstrations.
- Write and maintain critical quality operations documentation, including runbooks for hardware configuration, upgrading EKS, upgrading core services, and managing onsite clusters.
- Help develop and maintain observability for Kubernetes services and applications, ensuring users have necessary read-only access to metrics and logs.
- Maintain the on-premise Kubernetes platform to ensure high availability, scalability, and security for critical services.
- Enforce best practices for Kubernetes cluster lifecycle management, including upgrades, patching, and configuration management using tools like Helm, Kustomize, or GitOps (ArgoCD/Flux).
- Collaborate closely with software engineering teams to understand their needs, implement improvements, maintain security policies, network segmentation, and access controls within the Kubernetes environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Hands-on experience or solid understanding of physical server hardware configuration, component replacement, racking, and network cabling. Comfort working directly with hardware in a data center, server room, and temporary environments.
- Experience with out-of-band management solutions including but not limited to KVM, Dell iDRAC and/or HP iLO.
- Experience with Linux operating systems in both development and production environments.
- Foundational understanding and experience with Infrastructure as Code technologies such as (Ansible, Chef, Puppet, or Terraform) for managing cloud and on-premises environments.
- Experience deploying and supporting stateful and stateless application services, including databases and message brokers like Postgres, Redis, and RabbitMQ.
- Strong operational mindset with a desire to build clear, reliable technical documentation, hardware runbooks, and service level agreements.
- This position requires as-needed in-person work with physical servers in our Richmond, CA facility. Candidates must be willing to be hands-on. This includes but is not limited to racking servers, configuring operating systems, assembling servers with individual components.
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment in California is expected in the range below.
$130,000-$180,000 USD plus stock options, commensurate with experience.
