About the team:
You will be joining our Goodnotes Platform team. This team is is responsible for the Goodnotes Cloud, account management, and core sync- and collaboration flows.
Our team is spread between Asia and Europe. You’re welcome to work remotely from anywhere, with at least 4 hours overlap with with the people you’d be working closely with, or you can join us in our Hong Kong or London office. Due to the asynchronous nature of working that Goodnotes has adopted, any time difference will not impact your work-life balance.
About the role:
As a designer on the Goodnotes platform team, you will bring a systems-thinking approach to design, considering how platforms, tools, and services interconnect to create cohesive and scalable user experiences across our product ecosystem. You will work closely with product managers, engineers, and other designers to ensure that our platforms deliver exceptional usability and design excellence.

- Apply systems and ecosystems thinking: Take a holistic approach to design, ensuring solutions not only address individual user needs; they also contribute to a cohesive and scalable product ecosystem that aligns with the broader vision of Goodnotes.
- Design and elevate platform-specific solutions: Lead the design of tools and services that enhance core platform areas such as collaboration flows, sync, account, and Goodnotes Cloud. Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to create scalable, innovative, and seamless solutions that support the needs of diverse user groups.
- Collaborate on cross-platform design solutions: Work at the intersection of Apple (Mac) and other platforms (PWA, Android, Microsoft) to create unified and delightful user experiences.
- Partner with cross-functional teams: Collaborate with product, engineering, and research teams to design features and solutions that balance user needs with business objectives.
- Develop and communicate design concepts: Create wireframes, storyboards, prototypes, user flows, and process flows to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas early and iteratively.
- Establish and uphold design standards: Define and promote design guidelines, best practices, and standards for the product.
- Conduct research and usability testing: Gather user feedback through research and usability testing to inform and refine your designs.
- Utilise insights for impactful design: Leverage both quantitative and qualitative data to drive creative and evidence-based design decisions.
The skills you will need to be successful in the above:
- Platform expertise: Experience designing and optimising tools, systems, and services for platform ecosystems. Proven ability to deliver scalable, impactful solutions that address diverse user and business needs, including collaboration, sync and account management flows.
- Strong experience in building Collaboration tools**, B2C or B2B or both.**
- Strong portfolio: Proven experience as a Designer or similar role, with a portfolio showcasing impactful design projects, particularly for desktop applications.
- End-to-end design process: Expertise in designing end-to-end flows with clear visual hierarchy and evidence-based methods.
- User research proficiency: Ability to frame problems, conduct research, usability testing, and gather actionable insights.
- Attention to detail: A high standard for detail, quality, and user-centered design.
- Collaboration: Proven ability to work in small, cross-functional teams, including engineering, product management, and product insights.
- Quick iteration: Ability to generate various concepts and prototypes and pivot when needed.
- Systems thinking: Flexibility to zoom in for details and zoom out for a comprehensive understanding to connect the dots effectively. Demonstrated ability to think in terms of interconnected systems and ecosystems, crafting designs that balance immediate user needs with long-term scalability, flexibility, and cohesion across platforms.
What else would help you, but is not required
- Experience working with any productivity app is highly preferred.
- Experience working in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Experience with front-end development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).

The interview process:
- An introductory call with someone from our talent acquisition team. They want to hear more about your background, what you are looking for, and why you’d like to join GoodNotes
- A one hour call with our Head of Design. You’ll be expected to walk through your portfolio and give an overview of your experience as a designer during this call.
- A one hour portfolio review with our team
- A 1.5 hour whiteboard session with our design team where we co-ideate and see how we can work together
- A 45 minute call with one of the Goodnotes Platform Engineering Managers
