Job Description
The Grassroots Analytics STAMP team is breaking down barriers to direct mail fundraising for progressive campaign and nonprofit clients. We are seeking an experienced and innovative direct mail fundraiser who can help take this mission to the next level: this person will be the fourth member of a team that was just one person one year ago.
This person will steer fundraising strategy, oversee day-to-day mail production, manage client comms, and foster a culture of innovation. They will feel comfortable not just producing direct mail messaging, creative briefs, and data pulls, but actually directing the strategy and optimizing each component based on knowledge of industry best practices. They will serve as a resource and advisor for two Direct Mail Strategists and will partner closely with the Director of Fundraising Mail.
Responsibilities
Direct Mail Strategy (50%):
- Provide strategic recommendations – budget, timing, segmentation, etc – tailored for clients that span from a congressional candidate trying mail for the first time to a major nonprofit trying to optimize their existing donor base.
- Work with Direct Mail Strategists to write, edit, and approve direct mail letters in different styles and voices, leaning on industry best practices to guarantee success.
- Pair with the graphic design team to develop attention-grabbing mail designs.
- Create hyper-targeted lists of acquisition prospects in GA’s internal database and drive analysis and reports on direct mail returns.
Client Management and Sales (20%):
- Partner with Account Managers on sales calls, write proposals, suggest marketing ideas, and represent GA at occasional conferences and events.
- Assist Direct Mail Strategists with unexpected hurdles and fielding the tough questions in order to convert current and prospective clients into believers of direct mail.
- Create and manage a client retention strategy.
Product Innovation (20%):
- Streamline and optimize the STAMP’s team processes, strategies, and habits.
- Propose product innovations and new business strategies to the Director of Mail.
- Help create a multi-channel direct mail product at GA that harnesses the power of our digital fundraising team.
Team Resource / People Manager (10%):
- Serve as a resource, thought partner, and teacher to Direct Mail Strategists.
- Opportunity to serve as a people manager as the team continues to grow.
Qualifications
Skillset:
- 3-5 years of experience (looking for quality over quantity!) in the following areas:
- Direct mail strategy
- Political and/or nonprofit fundraising
- Project management and/or client management
- Expert in direct mail copywriting, direct mail design, and audience targeting strategy.
- Adept with data analysis, revenue and ROI tracking, and creating fundraising projections.
- Strong and persuasive communicator.
Attitude & approach:
- Experience in a start-up environment or similar setting preferred: looking for someone ready to dive in, create processes from scratch, and define their role as they go.
- Eagerness to break down the barriers to fundraising is a must – GA is proud to support candidates and nonprofits who may not traditionally afford direct mail consultants.
- Contagious passion for direct mail.
Manager salary range: $80K-$90K
